Eighteen most promising Qatar Museums (QM) employees are celebrating their success today after completing Qreation Generation 2, a high-level professional development programme designed to shape the future arts and cultural leaders of QM, Qatar and the region.

QM’s Chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani and other senior representatives of QM attended the graduation ceremony held at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), to celebrate the extraordinary achievements made by QM staff during the course of the programme.

Director of Education at QM, Dr Jelena Trkulja, said:

Qatar Museums is building a strong and committed workforce and we are dedicated to providing support, professional development opportunities and motivation to our employees. We envision QM as a creative hub that supports, encourages and develops the professional skills of our promising and aspiring colleagues. We envision QM as the employer of choice who ensures its employees’ capabilities keep pace with and exceed the current industry standards and best practice.’

Qreation Generation, initiated by HE Sheikha Al Mayassa in 2013 and overseen by QM’s Department of Education, is a six-month long Master level programme covering Management of Cultural Institutions and Leadership curriculum, custom-tailored for QM. The programme was created in consultation with international experts Arts Action Research from New York and Center for Creative Leadership from Brussels. The programme covers art management lectures, discussions, hands-on workshops and case studies covering key issues facing cultural institutions today. Furthermore, leadership workshops, consisting of individual work with leadership experts, advance one’s self-awareness, while group discussions and debates probe into the essence of leadership efficiency. The two programmes complement each other, revolving around and addressing specific challenges and projects of QM.

This month’s graduation ceremony marks the second generation of successful Qreation Generation completion. Employees from various QM departments such as the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), the Orientalist Museum, Archaeology, Enterprise, Marketing and Finance were awarded two certificates: one by the Center for Creative Leadership, a renowned global provider of leadership development, and a separate diploma from QM. Among the eighteen who graduated, twelve were Qatari nationals.

After the graduation, a mentorship programme will continue to foster and further develop skills of the Qreation Generation graduates. In addition, they will take part in an annual alumni group meeting, forming a Qreation Generation Think Tank, intended to support arts and cultural sector in Qatar and the region.
