Following a series of activities in celebration of UNESCO World Book Day, Qatar Museums (QM) will host an interactive reading session at the Qatar National Library (QNL) on Wednesday, 1 May at 4:30 pm.
At the event, Charlene Kasdorf will read ‘The Path towards the Island’ – a children’s book written by Qatari author Shaikha Al Zeyara and illustrated by Kasdorf herself. The book, which has been recently released by QM, features some of the incredible animals that visitors can see in the natural history gallery at the newly opened National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ).
Commenting on the event, Charlene Kasdorf stated:
Illustration techniques help build creative stamina in children, it’s always wonderful to host such events especially when parents who accompany the children are so receptive. Visual literacy is an important aspect of ‘reading’ a picture book.’
In addition to the reading session, children, aged 7 to 10, will be invited to participate in an interactive workshop where they will learn new techniques to create unique characters and improve their drawing skills. Free copies of QM’s children’s activity books will also be distributed to participants.
The event is part of the QM’s commitment to engage members of the community, promoting an educational culture and highlighting the importance of arts and museums in a well-rounded educational curriculum.
Qatar Museums’ publications allow audiences to explore the vast collection, discover exhibitions, and engage with different facets of Qatar’s culture.
