Qatar Museums (QM) is inviting university students and alumni to participate in the first edition of its Public Art Student Competition. The competition is open to students currently enrolled at a university in Qatar and alumni who have graduated in the last two years.
The competition provides an opportunity for students to propose their ideas for a public art piece which will eventually be displayed in Qatar. The piece could span various mediums, from installations to interventions and performances. The winners will gain financial support to realise their proposal and exposure in the art industry.
Abdulrahman Al Ishaq, Head of Public Art at QM, said they are proud to provide platforms of self-expression for the country’s rising artists. The competition, he said, is not only an incredible opportunity for students and recent graduates to contribute to enriching the nation’s arts and culture scene, but also prepares the next generation of artists with firsthand experience into the industry.
Public Art Researcher Aalia Khalid Al Khater added that by providing students with a toolbox, they can fuel Qatar’s growing art industry.
Universities in Qatar are home to some of our greatest established artists and we want to give more students a head start to gaining the same kind of exposure.
