Qatar National Day 2018 Celebrations

On 18 December, Qatar will commemorate its unification in 1878. Qatar National Day is celebrated every year with various traditional activities and costume displays, military parade, fireworks and Qatari flag displays all over the country.

As announced by the National Day Committee, the slogan this year is a poetic verse by QND Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani – ‘As long as it was proven by our deeds’.

Corniche Parade Strip

The National Day Committee announced that the Qatar National Day parade will start at 2:45 pm tomorrow and will last for one hour and 17 minutes. Al Corniche Street will be closed from 10 am. There will be live telecasts on large screens at Al Bida Park and Al Rayyan Park. Below is the map from the Ministry of Interior that shows where to find parking spaces, ambulances, food carts and other facilities.

Darb Al Saai 2018 Guide

Organised by the National Day Committee, the ‘Darb Al Saai’ festival tent will once again house memorabilia to commemorate this historical event. The venue offers activities and entertainment to engage the entire family – from traditional villages to parlour games. Click here for more details.

HMC Darb Al Saai 2018

As part of Qatar National Day celebrations, staff from HMC’s Ambulance Service and Hamad Injury Prevention Program (HIPP) will be at Darb Al Saai until 20 December. HMC staff will educate the public about the key messages of its ‘Know the 5 to save a life’ national awareness campaign and raise awareness about the importance of road safety.

HBKU Qatar National Day Participation at Darb Al Saai

Various HBKU entities will be showcasing their work at the Qatar Foundation set up at Darb Al-Saai this year, as part of ongoing Qatar National Day celebrations.

The College of Science and Engineering, College of Health and Life Sciences, Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, Qatar Computing Research Institute, and HBKU Press will be taking part in the activities.

Representatives from the various entities will be present to attend to visitors.

The event will be conducted in English and Arabic.

Police College Attempts to Break the Guinness Book of World Records

Police College Football Attempt Darb Al Saai

The Police College will participate in the events of Darb Al-Saai in celebration of the Qatar National Day 2018, highlighting a number of new activities, in cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy. One of the main activities would be the attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records by creating a football model that symbolises the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Click here to read more

 Qatar National Day Celebrations at Katara Cultural Village


Katara Cultural Village has lined up nine-day festivities to mark the Qatar National Day from 11 to 19 December from 4 pm to 11 pm.

A major highlight of the celebrations is an opera titled “Citizens and expats- we are one,” to be staged on December 17 and December 19. There will be two shows on both days at 7 pm and 9 pm.

There will be more than 45 events and activities over the nine days, including fireworks, opera, musical shows, parachuting, drone shows, cultural shows and other fun-filled activities.

Aspire Zone Foundation announces Qatar National Day photography competition

All interested competitors need to do is capture their best photographs of the Qatar National Day fireworks show that is scheduled to take place on the 17th of December at 8:30 pm at Aspire park and post it on Instagram using the hashtag #AspireQND. AZF has allocated valuable prizes for the first 10 winners and the winning photo will be posted on the official Instagram profile of @AspireZone.

Qatar Museums has installed a collection of historical flags outside of the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) in celebration of the upcoming Qatar National Day. The brilliant display of flags pays homage to the rich cultural history of the country, whilst illustrating the evolution of the design.

The Zubarah Cultural Fair

Qatar Museums is getting ready to launch a series of engaging and educational cultural activities at Al Zubarah UNESCO World Heritage Site and the newly restored Al Ruwais police station. The Zubarah Cultural Fair will offer participants hands-on experience with traditional practices, while the “Window to the Past” exhibition at Ruwais is designed to inform visitors about traditional life in Qatar. From 15 December to March, 9 am to 5 pm. Entrance is free.

For the Love of Qatar Poetry Night at QNL

Celebrated Qatari poets will take part in a poetry night at Qatar National Library on 15 December, and recite verses in two common traditions, Faseeh and Nabaţi. The event will commence at 5:30 pm at the Library’s Special Events Area. To learn more, visit the QNL website.

QNL also hosts Qatar Through Private Collection exhibition which runs until 1 February 2019.

Qatar Cricket Association to Celebrate Qatar National Day with Asian Stars T20 Match

The Qatar Cricket Association and the Ministry of Interior have teamed up to mount a memorable celebration of the Qatar National Day at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium on 18 December at 2 pm. QCA, with the support of the Qatar Olympic Committee, will host a Twenty20 cricket match between Asian stars and Qatar national team players.
