Join Qatar as it celebrates National Sport Day 2015, which is a public holiday, falling on the second Tuesday of every February as a day of sports and other fun activities to promote the benefits of an active healthy lifestyle.
Different events take place across Doha in the celebration of Qatar National Sport Day (NSD). Here’s Marhaba’s Guide to ‘Qatar National Sport Day 2015’.
Qatar Olympic Committee – Sports Village
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has announced that some of the nation’s best athletes will take part in the activities at the Sports Village on National Sport Day. Children of all ages are encouraged to pass by the Sports Village on National Sport Day and see the Qatari sporting stars practice their trade first hand.
Over 10 National Federations are offering free activities and entertainment for every age and fitness level and star athletes will be available to interact and instruct the public at 10 am on Tuesday. The Sports Village is open from 3 pm to 10 pm daily until National Sport Day on 10 February 2015, when it will be open from 8 am to 10 pm.
The Sports Village is once again the main hub of activity in Doha, ensuring the whole of Qatar can celebrate sport together in an electric, festival atmosphere.
The Village will allow everyone to see and learn basic skills from the best of the best in numerous fun-filled sports including handball, basketball, boxing, golf, para-athletics and football, while providing fun and games for all the family.
In addition to the plethora of sporting, recreational and cultural activities on centre stage at the Sports Village, this year’s BeFit programme winner will also be announced. Featuring the traditional Al Shawahef Rowing Championship and the legendary sport walk, as well as the biggest ever line up of free events, 2015 is set to be the largest and most widely celebrated day of sport ever witnessed in the country.
Aspire Zone Foundation
Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), the ultimate sporting destination of Qatar and the region, is set to demonstrate once again its commitment to building a healthier nation by celebrating the fourth National Sport Day (NSD) with a wide range of activities. Spanning throughout various locations at Aspire Zone, this year’s celebration will feature a number of fun games and activities planned for children, young people, women, men and people with special needs, along with family-specific activities.
This new cycling scheme can accommodate four or six members together with four and six seats new bikes. Cycle hire service is available normally from Sunday to Thursday from 4 pm till 8 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 12 pm (noon) to 8 pm. This year, Aspire Zone has launched ‘Learn to Ride’ programme in cooperation with the Qatari schools to help children and teens learn how to ride bikes, and ‘Cycle in Aspire’ is the extension of this programme to encourage more people to ride bicycles.
THE 5000 Step Journey
Starting and ending in front of the Torch Hotel area. Join us as we walk through a specially created circuit around Aspire. Designed to encourage healthy eating and daily physical activity. Open to families and friends from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Ladies Indoor Boot Camp
Under age individuals should be escorted by their legal guardians at the Ladies Club from 10 am – 11 am.

Open air fitness to get motivated with family. Join activities that increase endurance, strengthen muscles and extend flexibility at the Ladies Club from 9 am to 1 pm.
Bring along your friends and play in a friendly environment from 9:30 am to 2 pm.

Synchronised routine of elaborate moves in the water, accompanied by music at Aspire Dome Swimming Pool – three sessions from 9 am to 5 pm. Open for girls from 8 to 16 years.

Katara Cultural Village
Katara celebrates health and well-being with family-fun activities under the slogan ‘Live Sports’ from 8 am to 11 pm.
Katara will host more than 98 various sports activities on its waterfront, beginning from seven in the morning on 10 February and will target all segments of society, including women, men and children. Last year, Katara hosted 83 activities with the participation of 38 entities.
Katara will organise the various sports activities and competitions in bid to raise awareness among visitors about the importance of engaging in sports, as well as the health and moral benefits thereof, based on the well-known health principle: ‘A sound body in a sound mind.’
For reference, various sports federations and a large number of sports centers, companies and foundations are participating in the Sport Day activities at Katara, including Qatar Swimming Association, Qatar Basketball Federation, the Qatar Bodybuilding Federation, the Qatar Boxing Federation, Qatar Tennis and Squash Federation, the Handball Association, Golf Association, Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, Qatar Badminton Association, Qatar Sailing & Rowing Federation, Qatar Volleyball Association, Qatar Table Tennis Federation, Qatar Cycling Federation, Qatar Wrestling Federation, Qatar Chess Association, Qatar Football Association.

United Development Company (UDC), one of the leading Qatari shareholding companies in Qatar, announced its plans to celebrate Qatar’s NSD on 10 February 2015 at its flagship development The Pearl-Qatar with a fun-filled programme of sporting activities for employees and their families, as well as residents and visitors of The Pearl-Qatar.
In addition to the festivities organised by UDC, The Pearl-Qatar will also host a number of ministries, civic and government institutions planning to organize their Sports Day events on the Island, including Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), the Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics, Qatar School Sports Federation and Qatar Beach Tennis Club, all in celebration of health and sports therefore extending sporting activities and enthusiasm to various areas around the Island.
UDC’s day will start with a Walkathon on Porto Arabia Boardwalk at 8:30 am, leaving from 7 La Croisette and reaching all the way to 29 La Croisette where Anima Gallery & Lounge are located. QTA’s staff as well as media representatives will also join in the walk. HE Qatar’s Minister of Development Planning & Statistics will partake in a walkathon from Chocolate Bar in 1 La Croisette to the Ministry’s site of celebrations adjacent to the Rolls Royce Showroom.
Close by in 1 La Croisette between Sormani and Le Relais de l’Entrecote, Qatar School Sports Federation will be bringing along 50 children aged between 8 and 11, from different schools in Qatar to participate in mini football and mini basketball games from 8 am till 2 pm.
In collaboration with Qatar Beach Tennis Club and following the refreshing morning walk around Porto Arabia, UDC will hold Beach Tennis competitions from 10 am till 4:30 pm at the picturesque Lido Venezia Beach in Qanat Quartier, which will be open to free public registration. On the other side of the Island, at the mosque parking adjacent to The Pearl Roundabout, sports will be equally emphasised at the Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics’ event from 8 am until 5 pm. The huge land area will be filled with sports and recreational activities including handball and volleyball courts, ping pong, billiard and bowling, in addition to treadmills and other workout machines. Children’s entertainment is also key to all the family’s enjoyment, thus a special kids’ area has been erected and will be filled with bouncing castles and inflatable games. A health corner will guarantee that people will take up interest in doing some routine but vital blood tests and in learning about healthy living in the form of brief lectures.
Qatar Foundation (QF) invites all residents of Qatar to attend QF’s NSD celebrations on 10 February 2015. Dolphin Energy Doha Dash 2015
Sponsored by Dolphin Energy, the Doha Dash, taking place on 10 February 2015 as part of NSD, is firmly established in Qatar’s sporting calendar as an event for all the family. It is to be held once again at Losail International Circuit.
Registration closed on 2 February 2015. In anticipation of the expected increase in participants, the organisers have teamed up with GoSports to introduce a new registration and race pack distribution process. GoSports will host the race pack collection at their store in Villagio Mall prior to the event with the timings to be announced shortly.
The Doha Dash offers something for everyone; a 5km run for participants aged 12 and over (QR100), a 3km run for those aged 8 and over (QR50), a 1km run for children, and a 1km ladies’ walk (FREE). Runners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part. Organisers will pledge a percentage of all registration fees to the official charity, which will be announced shortly.
The Race Village will be packed with fun and excitement for participants and spectators, including live music, children’s activities, have-a-go sports areas and food & beverage areas. The emphasis of the event is both about supporting the initiative of NSD; leading a healthy lifestyle, while also offering a fun family day out.
The first three runners across the line in the 5km, 3km and 1km runs will receive a trophy. Participants are invited to bring their friends and family to support them and cheer them on as they cross the finish line.

Hamad Medical Corporation
On the occasion of NSD, HMC is hosting a programme of healthy and sports-related activities for staff and their families.
The programme will center around two main activities:
- A walkathon around Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City (HBKMC) starting at 9 am from the Nurses Club
- A mini football tournament to also be held at the Nurses Club from 2 pm to 4 pm
The HMC Qatar National Sports Day Organizing Committee has also organised a full range of other healthy and fun activities (including basketball, mini golf, children’s games and other events) in and around HBKMC from 9 am.
Participants in the HMC Qatar National Sports Day events will have the opportunity to check their blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), height and weight and diabetes screenings are also available. Staff from HMC’s Nutrition Department will be present to provide healthy eating advice.
