Qatar National Sports Day is one of the biggest events and holidays in the country, celebrated annually on the second Tuesday of February to promote a healthy lifestyle among the population in Qatar.

This year’s Qatar National Sports Day will take place on 11 February 2014 as the third National Sports Day in Qatar – the first was held on 14 February 2012. Qatar National Sports Day is an official public holiday in the country. Qatar is one of the few nations to dedicate a day for sports, including Japan where the Health and Sports Day is celebrated.

This year, Aspire Zone is set to kick off National Sport Day festivities in spectacular fashion with its ‘Lighting the Torch’ event on Monday 10 February 2014 at The Torch-Doha Hotel from 4 pm to 6 pm. Dozens of local sports stars will pedal stationary bicycles, situated outside the Torch-Doha Hotel, in order to generate enough power to light the iconic building.

Companies that will join in AZF’s NSD celebrations include RasGas, Qatar TV, Ministry of Energy and Industry, General Retirement and Social Security, Qatar Cycling Federation, Qatar Development Bank, HMC Organs Donation Center, Civil Defense, Qatar Enterprise, ictQATAR, National Human Right Committee, and Carrefour.
