Qatar ramps up its vaccination drive against COVID-19 with the opening of a new vaccination centre in the Industrial Area this Monday, 12 April. Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari visited the new vaccination centre prior to the opening.

The new vaccination centre in the Industrial Area was set up at the former Medical Commission facility. The facility is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Qatar Charity, with support from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and ConocoPhillips-Qatar.

HE Dr Al Kuwari said that the opening of this centre further strengthens the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, adding to more than 35 vaccination centres across Qatar, and will significantly boost access to COVID-19 vaccines for people living and working in and around the Doha Industrial Area.

The centre will administer the first and second dose of vaccinations in line with the national priority groups and enable Qatar to continue expanding the national programme which has already administered more than 1,079,000 doses.

The vaccination centre will remain open six days a week from 7 am to 7 pm and will operate on a strict invitation-only basis for the following priority groups:

  • Individuals 40 years and older regardless of health conditions
  • Individuals with moderate chronic medical conditions
  • Key workers in different industries

Better access

Dr Khalid Abdulnoor, HMC Senior Consultant and lead for the Industrial Area Vaccination Center said that the opening of the vaccination centre will greatly enhance access to vaccines for people in the Industrial Area. With more than 120 vaccination stations set up within the centre, the facility has the capacity to vaccinate large numbers of people each day.

Dr Abdulnoor, however, said that access to the vaccination centre will be by invitation only and they will not accept any walk-in. Individuals should bring their QID, health card or passport with them and must show their green EHTERAZ status.

The vaccination process will take approximately 30 minutes from the time of arrival and includes a period of observation where medical teams will monitor vaccine recipients for any signs of side effects.

The Industrial Area Vaccination Centre is the fourth specialised vaccination centre in Qatar, to support the delivery of the vaccination programme at all 27 primary health centres, following the opening of the vaccination centre at QNCC and the two drive-through centres in Lusail and Al Wakrah.
