Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has launched the Ramadan campaign for the year 1434 AH (Islamic calendar) under the slogan ‘merciful among themselves’ in order to collect donations to fund and implement social projects, medical relief and development in Qatar and 21 other countries in the continents of Asia and Africa.

Qatar Red CrescentQRC announced the allocation of QR14,000,000 for the implementation of projects in Qatar including Iftar project, the Zakat al Fitr and the distribution of food supplies for the elderly and needy families. In addition, QRC is implementing social programmes for children, medical programmes and medical lectures in mosques after prayers.

Secretary-General of QRC, Saleh Al Mohannadi, said:

According to Al Mohannadi, the amount has been allocated for Ramadan projects such as Iftar for needy people in Qatar which is QR1,275,000. Health related lectures will be conducted in around 15 mosques after Taraweeh prayer and free medical services will be offered to people after the lecture.

Al Mohannadi highlighted some of the achievements of the QRC Ramadan Campaign last year in several countries in the field of medical services, relief and developmental projects.

He also pointed out the inhumane conditions people are experiencing in Syria and in refugee camps which necessitates continuous efforts to meet their needs. QRC will implement the Iftar project for displaced Syrians with a QR1,204,500 entitlement allowing 15,000 food baskets to be distributed.

The month of Ramadan is the month of mercy, forgiveness and kindness in which the power of charity is in its optimum and the best time to think about helping others, stated Sheikh Abdullah Al Sada – Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. He added that there are many means to pay Zakat and pointed out the significance of allocating Zakat to people in need and distress.

According to Adel Ben Ali Baker, Director of Resource Mobilisation department and Adviser of General Affairs of QRC, the preparation for this year’s QRC Ramadan campaign started around five months ago. The campaign has been promoted through more than one location in Doha and its suburbs, Al Khor, Al Wakra and Al Rayyan; with the use of approximately 16 means of propaganda including social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube as well as publications and brochures, and text messages to almost 500,000 people.
