The Corniche Closure Committee has announced plans to regulate vehicle traffic in Doha during the Lusail Super Cup™ this Friday, 9 September.

The plan – which will be implemented from 3 pm to 10 pm – will divert vehicles with general transport number plates and black private transport number plates away from central Doha.

The following roads – A-Ring Road, B-Ring Road, C-Ring Road, Ahmed Bin Ali Street, Al Jamiaa Street, Al Khafji Street, Corniche Street, Al Bidda Street, Onaiza and all intersecting roads and streets – will be affected.

People who own only one vehicle (with either a general transport number plate or private black number plate), as well as Mowasalat Qatar and Qatar Rail public transport vehicles, are exempted from the diversion plan and will be able to access the affected roads.

Corniche Closure Committee Technical Team Head First Lieutenant Khalid Al Mulla said that the plan is part of the travel demand management measures developed by their committee to minimise traffic during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and ensure smooth mobility operations for public and private transport vehicles throughout the country.

According to Technical Team Member Engineer Abdulaziz Al Mawlawi, the plan is being implemented on a trial basis during the Lusail Super Cup to assess its effectiveness in improving the flow of traffic around the country.

He said that based on the results, they may look to implement similar plans during this year’s FIFA World Cup™ to ensure smooth transport operations and experiences in central Doha.
