Oryx Publishing & Advertising will host the first ever Qatar Today Women of the Year Awards on 30 October, Monday at The St Regis Doha, in partnership with Qatari Businesswomen Association (QBWA).

Qatar Today Women of the Year is the first and one of its kind in Qatar. It is a platform for women in Qatar to be recognised for their talent and effort. In support of Qatar National Vision 2030, the award will celebrate their achievements by awarding them for their accomplishments and contributions to society.

In its debut year, Qatar Today Women of the Year awards aims to honour 10 Qatari women from different categories who have left their mark in various sectors in 2016-17. The categories are Inspirational Woman of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Humanitarian of the Year, Medical Pioneer of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Creative Woman of the Year, Young Talent of the Year, Hospitality Pioneer of the Year, Engineer of the Year and Technocrat of the Year.

Faisal Fuad, General Manager of Oryx Publishing & Advertising Company said that women in Qatar have achieved more milestones compared to women in many other countries of the world. She has assumed the portfolio of a cabinet minister, worked in ministries, institutions, bodies and establishments, and marked her unmistakable prints in these jobs.

The Judging Panel is composed of individuals from a wide range of sectors. These include: Aisha Al Bedeed, Board Member of QBWA and Brand Owner of Darz Design; Amal Al Aathem, Board Member of QBWA, Counselor in the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and Chairwoman of 7th Heaven Arts; Mishael Al Ansari, Board Member of QBWA and Managing Partner of Oishi Sushi; Aysha Al Romaihi, Business Development Manager at Qatar Business Incubation Centre (QBIC); Reem Al Suwaidi, General Manager of Bedaya Centre; and Lolwa Al Marri, President of Qatar Women Sports Committee (QWSC).

The nominations were collected on 28 September, followed by the first judging panel where the judges made their nominations for each category. The judges gave scores to each nominee based on leadership, impact, creativity, resilience and commitment. The judging panel met again for the final meeting to seal the names of the winners, who will remain confidential until the awarding on Monday.
