Members of the Qatar British Business Forum (QBBF) joined local dignitaries and VIPs for a ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital. This unique ambulatory hospital flew into Doha recently to raise awareness about its eye care programmes within the developing world, located within a refurbished MD-10 aircraft that took six years to fit out as a medical facility.

QBBF members were invited to board the eye hospital and learn more about the work carried out by its staff and volunteers across the developing world. Qatar Creating Vision has partnered with Orbis to provide 5.5 million eye screenings and treatments to children in India and Bangladesh in the lead up to 2020. The eye care initiative has been funded with an $8 million donation from the Qatar Fund for Development, whilst the QBBF has supported the eye care charity to raise awareness about its projects.

At least 50% of childhood blindness is preventable or treatable which means that hundreds of thousands of children are suffering unnecessarily due to issues of accessibility or cost.
