Qetaifan Projects Company, a subsidiary of Katara Hospitality, recently signed a contract with WhiteWater West for the manufacture, shipment and installation of waterpark rides in Qetaifan Island North.
The contract was signed by Qetaifan Projects Managing Director Sheikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and WhiteWater West CEO Geoff Chutter. Other officials of Qetaifan and WhiteWater West were also there to witness the signing: Qetaifan Projects Chief Technical Officer Mohamed El Garhy, Chief Operating Officer Hesham Sharaf and Chief Legal Officer Jean Michel Antonios; and Mike Rigby, Whitewater West Executive Vice President for the Middle East.
Qetaifan Projects was established because of an increasing demand for high quality tourism facilities. Qetaifan Projects will develop and operate Qetaifan Island North to commensurate the high standards of Katara Hospitality’s continuous success.
According to Sheikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, they are delighted to be signing a deal with WhiteWater, one of the leading companies in the waterparks industry. He said that the island’s waterpark is one of the most important element on the island, which is set to become a preferred destination for visitors.
Qetaifan Island North in general, and the Waterpark in particular, according to Al Thani, will host large numbers of visitors, including Qatar residents as well as tourists. Its opening will coincide with the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Doha. He said that the signing of the WhiteWater contract is well within the plan of work and delivery, and Qetaifan Projects’ commitment to the standards and requirements of the market.
The signing of an agreement with WhiteWater follows the plan of local and global partnerships developed by Qetaifan Projects to contribute to the revitalisation of the tourism sector in Qatar, following the signing of 17 Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with tour operators, in consideration of the high interest and demand on the sector, in partnership with Katara Hospitality, Qatar National Tourism Council and Qatar Airways. Rixos International Hotel Chain will operate the hotel, retail outlets, waterpark and the beach club in Qetaifan Island North to offer the best services and ensure satisfaction of the island’s residents and visitors.
WhiteWater was established in 1980 and has been a world leader in the design and manufacture of complete waterparks and attractions all over the world.
WhiteWater CEO Geoff Chutter said the project is twice the size of their last project.
Creating this record-breaking park is a privilege for WhiteWater and a responsibility we take very seriously. Today’s signing ceremony solidifies the collaborative working relationship between industry pioneers, bringing new heights to the vision of what waterparks can be.’
The Qetaifan Island North development is part of Lusail City and features seven beaches. The island has an area of 1.3 million sq m, with the island’s projects spanning approximately 830,000 sq m.
