The 4th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW) surpassed the achievements of all previous editions, with over 280 activities and more than 160 partners joining in the initiative in the last quarter of 2019.  

Community participation in the annual QSW also increased over the past three years – it drew more than 50,000 members of the public and representatives of key governmental and private institutions, a fourfold increase from the 10,000 participants in its inaugural year.

Event organiser Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation, recently hosted an appreciation ceremony in honour  of sponsors and participants. Alfardan Group was this year’s Diamond Sponsor; Msheireb Properties was the Platinum Sponsor for the fourth consecutive year; while Qatar National Bank (QNB) was the Gold Sponsor and Tadmur Holding, the Awards Sponsor. Other key sponsors included Facilities Management and Maintenance Company (FMM), Jotun Paints, Ateliers Artea, Elite Paper Recycling, and Contactless.

QGBC Director Engineer Meshal Al Shamari awarded trophies to QSW partners and sponsors in acknowledgement of their efforts and contributions. He also highlighted the activities that was held during QSW and extended his appreciation to everyone who supported the initiative.

Qatar Sustainability Week’s success has only been made possible through the active engagement and valuable participation of 160 diverse entities who share the vision of Qatar Green Building Council for a sustainable future.’

The week-long annual QGBC initiative serves as a unique platform to promote Qatar’s sustainability vision as well as engage the community through sustainability-oriented activities.

As part of QSW 2019, various stakeholders were able to showcase their innovative solutions to the environmental challenges facing Qatar and the wider region, and their programmes to facilitate the delivery of Qatar National Vision 2030 following the global sustainability agenda.

Nominations for the 4th Qatar Sustainability Awards are open until 26 January. The first and largest sustainability awards in Qatar will recognise the efforts, commitment and excellence of individuals, institutions and organisations furthering sustainable development.
