QRC Volunteers to Distribute 9,000 Iftar Meals to Municipal Workers in Ramadan
For the third year in a row, Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) volunteers proceeded with their Ramadan Iftar programme, with financing from The Ritz-Carlton, Doha Hotel and the 24th Men’s Handball World Championship (Qatar 2015) Organizing Committee.
Throughout Ramadan, they will distribute 9,000 iftar meals (300 meals a day), water and juice bottles, and sweets to municipal workers at the Industrial Area.
Head of QRC Volunteer Division, Najat Al Haidous, said:
I take the opportunity to thank our volunteers for their perseverance and diligence in Ramadan, despite the hot summer and fasting. Actually, we are all proud of this exceptional group of volunteers, who devote their time and efforts for free to help others and be there for the vulnerable.’
The purpose of the campaign is to reach municipal workers at their workplaces, so that they do not have to go home or prepare group iftar tables. According to QRC, it is also a way to say thank you for their dedication and hard work, in light of QRC’s invitation of all institutions to assume their social responsibility and support this vulnerable community, both financially and non-financially, especially in such spiritual times, to strengthen human bonds, emphasize the feelings of brotherhood and tolerance that dominate Qatari society, and inspire the workers to continue their appreciated efforts.
Al Haidous highly commended the initiative by The Ritz-Carlton, Doha Hotel, QRC’s hospitality partner, and Qatar Handball Association’s Qatar 2015 to sponsor the programme. She wished such partnerships to keep going ahead, as they have a good impact on all segments of society and play a great role in improving the lives of workers, who work in heat to serve the public.
An exclusive QRC volunteer creation, this programme is totally different from the larger-scope Ramadan Iftar project conducted annually by QRC across the country. Last Ramadan, 75,000 people received iftar meals, and the number is expected to hit 84,000 people this year, at a total cost of QR1,350,000.
QRC’s Ramadan campaign, launched this year under the slogan ‘Your Donation Is Their Lifeline,’ is an annual tradition observed by QRC for several years now, to raise funds and intensify medical, social, and humanitarian activities towards the beginning of and during the holy month of Ramadan, as it is a special occasion for all people, particularly the poor, who desperately need to secure the necessities of life, feel a sense of fulfillment and social solidarity, and have better economic conditions.
