Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has finalised preparations for Eid-al-Fitr celebrations which features a vast array of events and activities organised for the Eid festivities starting on the first day of Eid Al Fitr and running for 10 days in shopping centres and for more than 35 days at the Wanasa Entertainment City.
The scheduled events will include folklore games, entertainment contests, crafts, art performances, fireworks, heritage exhibitions, concerts, as well as other activities.
This year’s Eid activity partners include the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage; the Cultural District (Katara), Souq Waqif, Aquapark, Sawt Al-Rayan, The Pearl Qatar, Museum of Islamic Art, Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve, Qatar Air Sports Committee, Lusail Shooting Club, while participating malls and commercial centers comprise Villaggio, City Center, Landmark Mall, Hyatt Plaza, Lagoona Mall and Al Khor Mall.
On this occasion, Abdulla Al Bader, Chairman of the Eid festival organizing committee, commented:
We have made all the necessary arrangements to start the Eid festival, as well as to receive Qatar’s guests on both the Abu Samra border and at Doha International Airport. We are looking forward with great excitement to start the Eid celebrations for citizens, residents, and tourists in Qatar.’
‘We have experienced excellent cooperation this year with different governmental bodies which has helped us prepare a rich programme of activities and events suit all ages. The festivities will extend beyond the 10 days of Eid and will continue till the 15 of September at the Wanasa Entertainment City.’
The highlight of this year’s Eid festival will be the opening of the Wanasa Entertainment City at the Doha Exhibition Centre (DEC). Spread over 15,000 square meters, the full fledged entertainment city will host a wide range of activities including a circus show, games, theatre plays, presentations of cartoon characters, restaurants, and 150 shopping stands. The events and shows in the Wanasa Entertainment City will run from the 8 August to 15 September 2013. Entrance is free, with entertainment, shopping and food items offered at an additional charge.
QTA will also be hosting live shows and events in shopping centres during the 10 days of Eid. The public can watch parade shows, Japanese drummers, the Popeye play, music festivals, the Angry Birds show, magic shows, Zuma-Zuma, Rola-Rola, Snow White and other shows in all eight venues starting from 2 pm from 8 to 17 August 2013.
The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage will participate in the Eid celebration with a rich schedule of activities including traditional performances that will reflect on the local heritage in addition to a number of games, entertainment, contests and crafts at the Heritage Village and Bida Park, from 6 pm to 12 am.
The Museum of Islamic Art and Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum will welcome visitors during Eid from 9 am to 10 pm and from 9 am to 6 pm, respectively.
Starting the first day of Eid, the Qatar National Theatre will host Al Firjan starring Ghanem Al Sulaiti, while Sawt A Rayan and Souq Waqif will host live concerts featuring top artists. The Pearl-Qatar is also joining in on the celebration with face painting and ‘magic balloon’ shows for kids, while Aqua Park Qatar will host an extensive programme of games and activities for children of all ages.
A number of institutions have joined the Eid festivities for the first time in Qatar, including theQatar Sports Club hosting the Monte Carlo circus during the first week of Eid, the Qatar Air Sports Committee that will be offering air tours during the 10 days of Eid Al Fitr and the Lusail Shooting Club that will be opening its doors from the fourth day of Eid for shooting lessons and activities.
Tailor-made travel packages including a choice of hotels and tours will be available on the QTA website for visitors to choose from, in coordination with Qatar Airways and Regency Travel.
