Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) will lead a delegation of representatives from Qatar Airways and eleven hotels on a three-city roadshow throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia commencing on Sunday 24 May 2015.
The roadshow follows the opening of QTA representative offices in Jeddah and the capital Riyadh last year, and forms part of the strategy to enhance promotional efforts in key target markets throughout the GCC.
During these events in Jeddah, Riyadh and Al Dammam, QTA and its partners will update over 120 Saudi-based travel agents and tour operators on tourism opportunities in Qatar, and further inform them of plans for the 2015 Qatar Summer Festival which was launched during the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai earlier this month.
Chief Marketing and Promotions Officer at QTA, Rashed AlQurese, commented on the importance of keeping the GCC market abreast of developments in Qatar. He said:
The number of visitors from Saudi Arabia to Qatar increased by 28% in the first quarter of 2015 reaching over 240,000 visitors. Qatar is not standing still. Luxury hotel construction continues, transport infrastructure grows at a pace, and bold new developments continue to be planned. Qatar is a destination with its roots firmly embedded in the traditions of its past, but with ambitions firmly focused on the 21st century and beyond. We will continue with new promotional initiatives in this region and QTA, together with partner participants at this KSA roadshow, will collectively provide the agents with insight into an excellent cross-section of Qatar’s hospitality offerings, focusing on the five-star, four-star and boutique hotel sectors, as well as hotel apartments. Family orientated tourism from the region remains prominent and we will always ensure that there is a strong focus on activities to meet the needs of this important target market.’
AlQurese added that the 2015 Qatar Summer Festival, taking place throughout August, will include entertainment and cultural activities expected to attract an increasing number of tourists from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf.
During the roadshow, QTA will recognise travel agents who have completed QTA’s on-line destination training program – ‘Tawash’ – which offers travel agents and other tourism professionals the opportunity to register and start the process of becoming accredited tourism experts on Qatar by giving extensive online training information to enhance their knowledge on Qatar as a destination and better understand the offerings. This programme, which has already qualified over 600 tourism professionals internationally, is designed to develop an international team of ‘tourism ambassadors’ for Qatar, in their respective home markets.
