The Seventh Holy Qur’an memorisation competition for children organised by Katara Cultural Village this Holy Month of Ramadan officially opened this week and will continue until 31 May. Fifty children aged 10 to 12 years old are participating in the competition.
The orientation sessions for participants started this Sunday and included lessons in selected verses from the Holy Qur’an and the Tradition of the Prophet (Hadith), Prayer, Islamic History and Islamic Etiquette. Winners will be awarded prizes at the end of the competition.
The sessions for boys are held at the main mosque in Katara and for girls at the Golden Mosque in Katara after Asr prayers, Sunday to Thursday, over two weeks. The annual competition aims to keep children attached to the Islamic identity and values, through the study, memorisation and recitation of the Holy Qur’an.
