The Ramadan Sports Festival launches tonight at the Aspire Zone Foundation.
Now in its fourth year, the festival will feature 12 sports competitions for men, women and children, with the objective of motivating them to stay in shape during the holy month, through regular exercise.
The competitions start with the inaugural Aspire Embassies Football Tournament tonight at Aspire Dome with the first round knock-out match between the embassies of UAE, and Somalia. In another debut, the Aspire Banks Football Tournament hosts Qatar Development Bank who will meet Qatar International Islamic Bank also on the Dome pitch.
Tonight will also witness further opening matches for six of the twelve competitions:
Men’s football. First match: Doha team will meet Doha Stars (participating for the second time); second match: Cairo meets BSG on pitch 10.
In the first day of the two-day American football competition, six matches will be contested- “Mad Camels 1 vs Good Guys”, “Al-Fasan vs Mad Camels 2”, “Mad Camels 1 vs Mad Camels 2”, while Al-Fasan will meet Good Guys in the fourth match, and Al-Fasan vs Mad camels 2 in the fifth match. In tomorrow’s final match, Mad Camels 2 will meet Good Guys. All American football matches will be played on the warm up track pitch.
In addition, as part of the first junior futsal tournament at Aspire (one of three futsal tournaments being hosted at Aspire this Ramadan) six matches will be held. Four will be held at the multipurpose hall, two in Aspire Dome, where MUKFC will meet Galaxy in the first match, and Black Stars will meet Al Ameed in the second match. BMHM plays AG in the third match, and the Flame takes on H Barcelona in the tomorrow’s final match.
All competitions will begin at 9:30 pm, and last until 12 am (midnight).
Now in its fourth year, the Aspire Ramadan Sports festival builds on previous successes. This event provides the opportunity for physical activity during the holy month of Ramadan, including for participation in differently abled/disability sports, which stems from Aspire Zone’s commitment to the spiritual values of the holy month.
