As Qatar prepares to celebrate its national day RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) held its second annual Qatarization celebration.
With more than 750 employees and many high profile guests including Dr Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, President of Qatar University, Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum and Issa Mohammed Al Mohannadi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority in attendance, the event reflected the company’s ongoing commitment to quality Qatarization. Speaking at the event, Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, RasGas Chief Executive Officer, said:
In RasGas, we focus on sustainable development through creating a comprehensive learning organisation. We provide a structured system of recruitment, on the job training, coaching, mentoring and career development, with the aim of attracting, retaining and developing quality nationals.’
As part of the celebration, RasGas recognised 161 Qatari employees, who have completed significant milestones in their careers, and also their coaches and mentors, who played a pivotal role in empowering national talents.
RasGas is a Qatari joint stock company established in 2001 by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil RasGas Inc. RasGas acts as the operating company for and on behalf of the owners of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects RL, RL (II) and RL3 (Project Owners). With operations facilities based in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar, RasGas’ principal activities are to extract, process, liquefy, store and export LNG and its derivatives from Qatar’s North Field. RasGas, on behalf of the Project Owners, exports to countries across Asia, Europe and the Americas with a total LNG production capacity of approximately 37 million tonnes per annum.
For pipeline sales gas to the domestic market, RasGas also operates the Al Khaleej Gas Projects, AKG-1 and AKG-2 supplying approximately 2.0 billion standard cubic feet (Bscf) per day. RasGas is currently adding production capacity by building the Barzan Gas Project which when fully operational in 2015, is expected to supply approximately 1.4 Bscf of additional sales gas per day to the Qatari market to meet growing demand for energy at power stations and downstream industries.
RasGas currently operates the Ras Laffan Helium Plant which was established in 2003 and came on stream in 2005. The plant extracts, purifies and liquefies helium from the North Field. The second helium plant entered production in June 2013 bringing the total liquid helium production capacity to 1.96 Bscf per year.
In line with the Qatar National Vison 2030, RasGas’ Qatarization strategy provides Qatari graduates with an opportunity to join an organisation that offers competitive employment packages, focused learning and training opportunities and, a clear career development path. RasGas’ quality driven Qatarization strategy has resulted in over 1,200 national employees amongst a 3,800 strong employee base.
Guest speaker and former RasGas employee of 10 years, Issa Al Mohannadi shared his inspirational journey within RasGas and encouraged the young graduates to take ownership and be part of the State’s legacy for generations to come.
RasGas is a nationwide leader in Qatarization, following the guidance of its majority shareholder, Qatar Petroleum. RasGas’ quality Qatarization strategy has been repeatedly recognised by the Ministry of Energy and Industry’s crystal award for its commitment to attracting and retaining the highest calibre of national employees. Since 2009, RasGas has been awarded four prestigious Qatarization Crystal Awards.
