You must all by now have seen the news – the UN Climate Change Conference, or COP18 for short – is in town, and starts today!
The Conference is being held at the Qatar National Convention Center by Qatar Foundation, and with 17,000 delegates attending, it’s safe to say that you will experience some traffic disturbance. Roads immediately within the area of QNCC will be closed off, and only those with a special permit will be allowed access to the venue. The UN has allowed each delegation from the 194 nations attending just one vehicle each to travel to the conference.
All other visitors must use the free shuttle service operating from 32 hubs in and around Doha. For details of the shuttle service, see the COP18 website.
Please note – Education City will be closed today to help ease congestion.
If you are travelling around Doha for the next few days, why not take the advice of the organising committee and car share? Try to avoid the busiest areas – QNCC; Doha Exhibition Centre; the Corniche – and peak times – 6:30 am to 8am; 12:30 pm to 2 pm; and 4 pm to 6 pm.
