For the second year in a row, Wyndham Grand Regency Doha hosted the 12th edition of Qatar’s only inter-hotel cricket tournament, Premier Cricket League (PCL) 2015.
The annual cricket event is organized to promote the spirit of sportsmanship amongst Qatar’s hotel fraternity by offering their star cricketers a platform to exhibit their skills.
Captain of the Wyndham cricket team and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Chander Raina, said:
It is an honour to organise an event that promotes teambuilding within Qatar’s hotel community, while incorporating a bit of friendly competition.’
General Manager of the Wyndham Grand Regency Doha, Ayman Lotfy, added:

PCL 2015 witnessed four new semifinalists, with the Grand Hyatt team walking away with the prestigious Championship Trophy and Millennium Hotel becoming the runners-up. The other two semifinalists were Diplomatic Club and Al Sharq Hotel & Spa. This year’s tournament witnessed a record number of participants; a total of 28 hotels. The organizing committee credited the event sponsors for the event’s grand scale and success. The official sponsors included 28 Black, Bayt.com, Doha Bank, Jumbo LG, Alcatel Lucent, Royal Hospitality, National Furniture, Network Solutions, Alofog IT Solutions, Software Labs, RockZolid, Empire Advertising, Aljabor Business Systems, SAT Linen, Dana Tech, Gulf Lights, Colors & More and Atrium Design.
The tournament kicked off with a grand opening on 4 April 2015 attended by players and their supporters from all participating hotels, the sponsors and cricket enthusiasts at the Qatar Cricket Association Grounds in Lusail. Closing Ceremony took place on May 2 2015 which was organised for the first time at Mesaieed Cricket Stadium and was presided over by the legendary Indian Cricketer, Kapil Dev, who also gave away the awards. Dev said:
Sport teaches us team spirit and I see amazing teamwork here in organizing such a beautiful event and also in the way the hoteliers have played. Making time for cricket from their busy schedules is truly commendable.’
A closing party was organised at the Champions Bar in Marriott Marquis Doha on 4 May 2015, attended by the participating teams and sponsors in the inspiring company of Dev.
Organizing committee members, Chander Raina, John Lobo, Ashwin Shetty and Robin Samuel along with the veteran Kapil Dev, launched the first edition of the tournament magazine called ‘The Plate & The Pitch’. The magazine gives the insights of the event, team profiles and some interesting read about the sponsors.
