The eagerly anticipated Royal Grammar School, Guildford in Qatar opened its doors today to its founding students.
Following an induction morning earlier this week which was attended by Hamad Saleh Al Qamra, Chairman of Al Qamra Holding, the RGS Guildford in Qatar’s benefactor – the school was officially declared open.
Paul Bridges, Principal at the newly opened school said:
It is Al Qamra’s passion, support and generosity which has made the Royal Grammar School, Guildford possible here in Qatar.’
Other key attendees, including Dr Hossam Mostafa, CEO of Al Qamra Holding, founding students and parents enjoyed an open day viewing of the school and its impressive facilities, which include indoor and outdoor play areas for each year group. Bridges referred to the RGS as ‘a unique school with an impressive history of providing an outstanding British education for over 500 years’.
Bridges stated that RGS is a school with the highest standards internationally. Bridges said:
Your son or daughter has joined a community of thousands of students both past and present whose achievements are such that we find RGS alumni at the top of the world’s professions, from government to the arts, from finance to engineering.’
The Principal spoke about the high expectations that are set at the RGS, which ensures all of its students are set on the path to success. RGS students are expected to be punctual, polite, courteous, to work with others, to persevere and to try their hardest at all times.
Bridges expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education and all the municipal departments who had supported the opening of the Royal Grammar School in Qatar. Special thanks were paid to the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for providing the educational vision for Qatar, which was instrumental in the invitation made to the RGS, Guildford to provide the same level of outstanding British education here in Qatar.
The RGS Guildford in Qatar, located in the convenient location of Um Salal Mohammed, follows a British curriculum that has been developed at the RGS Guildford. The curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire children to make the most of their talents; the language of instruction is English and all of the staff are highly qualified and British trained.
Admission to the School is by assessment only and all applicants must meet the high academic standards demanded by RGS or be able to demonstrate a potential to access the curriculum and thrive at the school.
The school is open to girls and boys between three and six years of age (Reception, Nursery, Year 1 and 2), with older students up to age 18, being admitted in to the single sex Senior School over the coming years.
