As the Holy Month approaches, Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) Volunteers have begun packing and distributing supplies of rice, oil, milk, flour and other basic food items to families in need between the 9th and 11th of July.
Supported by its corporate partners, ROTA volunteers will also be renovating the homes of two families in need from the 22nd to the 26th of July and the 29th July to the 2nd August. Both family homes will benefit from a house ‘makeover’ including home maintenance, repainting and new furniture. In addition, ROTA will be hosting three Community Iftar events during Ramadan with community-based institutions that work with children with special needs, elderly citizens and other vulnerable communities.
In a new Ramadan initiative for 2012, the ROTA Volunteer Program is also hosting a Fundraising Iftar event in Qatar Foundation on 8th August. ROTA will welcome senior management from its various partner organisations to the corporate fundraising event which will include a ROTA photo exhibition where framed pictures of ROTA activities will be auctioned to raise funds for a ROTA funded Non-Formal Education Project in Bangladesh.
Finally, ROTA volunteers will be celebrating the joy of Garangao with children at the Hamad Hospital Leukemia Centre on 31st July and with the Hamad Children’s Rehabilitation Centre on 2nd August. Unique to some of the Gulf countries, Garangao, a children’s festival, is celebrated mid-Ramadan every year.
