Non-profit education and community development organisation, Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), announced their 8th annual Ramadan Project, Sharing Blessings, which has become one of Qatar’s most recognised volunteer efforts supporting the local community during the holy month.

ROTA’s Acting Executive Director, Mohamed Al Naama, said:

This Ramadan, we are engaging our incredible ROTA volunteers to continue to give back and share their blessings with people in need in our community. Following the success of our landmark Reach Into Qatar initiative earlier this month, we are excited to watch our annual Ramadan volunteer project reach new heights and are grateful for the generous support of the project’s sponsor, QXY Qatar.’

With the support of their exclusive project sponsor, Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY) Qatar, ROTA volunteers will conduct a comprehensive renovation of the Bangladesh M.H.M School – a school in Abu Hamour. The aims of ROTA’s Ramadan 2014 Project are to provide engaging volunteering opportunities and raise the awareness of the values of volunteerism and community service.

OXY Qatar General Manager, Steve Kelly, said:

At this very special time of year, Oxy Qatar is honoured once again to support ROTA’s 2014 Ramadan Project. Oxy Qatar’s partnership with ROTA exemplifies our commitment to support local communities in the regions where we operate, helping to improve the lives of the less fortunate. In the spirit of this cause, a number of our employees will volunteer their time to lend a helping hand during the school renovation and other activities at Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care, and for the children at Rumailah Hospital and Hamad Hospital. Oxy Qatar is proud to extend its support of ROTA through the year 2016, having had the honor of supporting ROTA’s Ramadan projects for the past two years. Our sincere gratitude goes to everyone at ROTA who has worked so hard to make this year’s programme another successful and meaningful event.’

The school renovation project is an addition to ROTA’s wider Ramadan 2014 volunteer effort, which has, over the years, engaged many hundreds of volunteers and, this year, is expected to help over 1,000 individuals in Qatar.

The annual Ramadan Project is being exclusively sponsored by OXY Qatar for the third consecutive year and ROTA is extremely pleased and proud to continue to work with such a visionary partner in the years to come. In addition, ROTA’s Volunteer Program works closely with  the Social Development Centre, and Qatar Foundation’s Facilities Management Directorate to benefit from their unique expertise and maximize the local reach and impact of ROTA’s Ramadan 2014 Project.

Deputy General Manager of OXY Qatar, Hasan Al Malki, said:

We are pleased to continue our cooperation with ROTA. This initiative is part of our comprehensive CSR programme, which we are keen to implement to assist, support and engage with the local community. We are pleased that OXY is part of this initiative and engaged in several activities, from packing groceries to contributing to renovation activities.’

This year, ROTA volunteers will serve and support important community partners including: Rumailah Hospital’s Children’s Rehabilitation Centre and Residential Care Compound, Hamad Hospital’s Paediatric Leukaemia Unit, and Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care.
