ROTA Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day Returns in February 2014
Bringing a spectacular line up of activities and Arab World celebrities, the annual Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) hosts its annual Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park on Friday 7 February from 2 pm to 10 pm, under the auspices of ROTA Chairperson, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Participants will be particularly encouraged to have the opportunity to jump on a skateboard or lace up a pair of trainers to complete The Circuit as adults, children and celebrities jog, walk, cycle or wheelchair three kilometers along the Doha Corniche. The social activity will help ROTA raise fund to provide quality education to 48 million disadvantaged children in the world’s largest continent, Asia.
The action will kick off at 2 pm and among the entertainment on the seventh edition of Wheels ‘n’ Heels will be performance by singer Shama Hamdan (UAE), while young ones will enjoy meeting popular Baraem Children’s Channel presenters Ahmed Al Mulla and Jihan Arsanious, masters of the ceremony of the event.
Additional star-studded appearances will include local and international celebrities and sports icons, Mahmoud and Abdullah Bo Shri (Kuwait), rally racer Nada Zeidan (Qatar), and teenage swimming sensation Nada Mohamed Arakji (Qatar).
The Big Screen, a large outdoor screen showing Wheels ‘n’ Heels activities, sponsor information, entertainment from The Stage and inspirational ROTA videos, to ensure everyone can follow all the Wheels ‘n’ Heels action, while a Photography Booth will be available to everyone looking forward to getting memorable photos of a family event.
A special Kids Zone is guaranteed to keep the kids occupied for hours with non-stop live entertainment, bouncy castles, face painting, a range of fun games, interactive sports, and performances by well-known singers and dancers. The Childhood Cultural Centre, founded under the initiative of HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser to encourage, support and develop social growth in Qatar, will be providing books and arts and crafts materials to Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2014.
For more fun, kids stamp cards will be available for visitors where kids will have to collect one stamp from each play area they visited. By the end of the games’ circuit, nice gifts from ROTA zone will be offered to all kids acquiring the complete number of stamps required. As for the youngest kids age group participating in the fun day, an exciting toddler play zone will be awaiting them. ‘Stay Active and Healthy’ will be the message in the Active & Health Zone as kids and adults learn more about first aid, how to prevent accidents, and even get a free health check-up. Those with energy to spare will have the chance to join Aspire and Qatar Cycling Federation who will bring hours of fitness activities and wicked sports fun for the whole family.
Action on Diabetes village for the second consecutive year will be hosted at Wheels’n’Heels, the village aims to raise awareness about the prevention and management of diabetes and the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices. The ‘Action on Diabetes’ village has already proved very successful – attracting more than 5,000 people during Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2013, through a successful public-private partnership between the Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar Diabetes Association, Maersk Oil Qatar and world leader in diabetes care Novo Nordisk.
Ensuring everyone has enough energy to enjoy the entire six hours of Wheels ‘n’ Heels excitement, the Wheels ‘n’ Heels Food Zone, partnering with Grand Heritage Hotel, main caterer of the event, provides a selection of 100% healthy snacks and drinks throughout the day; participants will get loaded with the amazing taste of the most natural and healthy made Qatari ice-cream and popcorn. Eight food vendors are also ready to serve all participants with healthy refreshments and munchies promoting the ideal combination of sports and light food for a perfect lifestyle: The One, Nando’s, Subway, Salad Boutique, Dune Catering, Gharissa Arabian Ice Cream, Dippingo and Let’s popcorn.
Beyond Qatar Cycling Federation, a large number of ROTA partners will participate in Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2014, such as ASPIRE, Child Culture Centre (CCC), Oreedoo, Qatar National Cancer Society, Qatar Orphan Foundation – Dhreima, Qatar Olympic Committee QOC, Qatar University, Green Life, Qatar Brazil 2014, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar Bikes, Slim N Lite, and Qatar Football Association.
To prevent children from getting lost, children will be provided with wrist bands which will include the name of the child and a contact number. In case a child is lost, he or she will be taken to a child-friendly ‘Pick Up’ spot where the family member will be contacted via a Public Announcement (PA) and phone to pick up the child.
The parking area at MIA will be closed. Parking for Wheels ‘n’ Heels will be available at Qatar Sports Club (QSC) and Ministry of Interior (MOI) of Qatar. Shuttle buses will be available to take guests from QSC and MoI to MIA from 2 pm to 2:30 pm.
