Run the World at QMA

On your marks, get set, go to the second National Youth Sports Festival between December 12 and 22. Presented by The Youth Company together with the Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum, the 10-day national youth sports festival called Run The World is designed to encourage Qatar’s youngsters to lead an active, athletic and healthy lifestyle. The festival will feature a fashion show, a talk about Run The World, Heart Qatar, Young Corporate Cup, a comedy show, medical camp, a three-day outdoor festival and a gala dinner.

Run The World’s organising committee comprises of over 60 young people along with more than 700 volunteers.

‘The partnership between Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum and The Youth Company to re-create Run The World for the second time reinforces Qatar’s commitment to encourage and enable cultural and, in extension, sports initiatives. This is our longer commitment in getting the youth in Qatar involved in sports, culture and civic engagement,’ says Dr Christian Wacker, Director of the Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum.

The festival kicks off with the fashion show which is dedicated to sports and leisure wear. ‘Inspiring Qatar’ is an opportunity for local designers to showcase their talents while adhering to the festival’s overall theme. The majority of events are open to the public but mainly target the 14-29 age group. However, there are also activities to encourage those of all ages and interests to get involved. The Young Corporate Cup, for example, on December 14 and 15, aims to attract 16 teams representing different companies and organisations to battle it out on the football field. Another event, Heart Qatar, on December 19, will encourage children with special needs to play with sports celebrities.

The main attraction is the Outdoor Festival, between December 20 and 22, which includes sports tournaments, workshops, a cultural programme and the finals of Youth Got Talent where participants will perform in front of judges and the public. There will also be a display of the best submissions for the photography exhibition on the topic Youth & Sports.

All events are free, however some, such as the fashion show, do need to be booked due to the limited number of seats. All registration forms and a detailed schedule can be found at the official event web page.
