Mega Marathon

The much-awaited Qatar Mega Marathon, will take place on 27 March 2015 at the National Day Ceremonial Road, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of Al Sadd Sports Club, in association with Katara Cultural Village.

This colossal event, being promoted under the slogan ‘Run With Qatar’ will be held under the regulatory compliance of the Guinness World Records and will attempt to break the world record for ‘Run with Qatar’.

The Qatar Mega Marathon is a first of its kind world-class sports event to be held in the GCC, which targets all segments of the Qatari society – nationals, expatriates and tourists alike, and shows the sovereign’s commitment to achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030. Remarking on the Qatar Mega Marathon 2015, Rashid Al Nu’aimi, Chairman of the Board of Qatar Mega Marathon, said:

We have the pleasure of holding this unique sport event in Doha as we seek to actualize the directions of HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to increase the number of sport events in the country and attract more participants in such events, whether from amongst Qatari citizens, expats or tourists. In this regard, we would like to extend our thanks to Al Sadd Sport Club and the officials therein for organizing and patronizing this significant event and wish them success as they embrace this distinguished privilege. I also call upon all the citizens of our beloved country to take part in this Marathon and equally encourage their children to take part in this event, which stimulates physical education and well-being amongst them. Moreover, I extend my thanks to Katara Culture Village for co-patronising this event.’

With its recently launched ‘Run With Qatar’ initiative, Al Sadd Sports Club invites one and all to take part in the marathon and looks forward to achieving a World Record with an unprecedented participation in the event. At the same time, through this mega marathon the organisers wish to promote sports-related activities in Qatar, promote its position as the ‘Sports Capital’ of the GCC region and bring it in the limelight as the perfect and well-suited destination to host global events of such great magnitude.

The Qatar Mega Marathon 2015 has already received thousands of registrations from participants across all age groups, gender, nationalities and social tiers and indeed bears proof of the Qatari spirit of sportsmanship.
