With more than 200 contestants taking part, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) successfully concluded the eighth edition of the Aspire Torch Staircase Run (ATSR 2019), with participants of all ages and backgrounds in the race categories for children, adults, masters and companies.

Organising Committee Chairman Abdullah Aman Al Khater said that this edition is one of the most outstanding so far, with participation from Aspire Academy and cancer survivors making it extra special.

As part of their corporate social responsibility, AZF donated 30% of the registration fees to Qatar Cancer Society. A screening van was placed near The Torch – Doha to give free public check up during the race. A booth was also in place to answer queries and give more information.

Aspire Staircase Run

Cancer survivors Mohamed Shaaban and Sami Al Asali participated in the Masters category. They came in at 23rd and 26th place, respectively. Shaaban said that his participation was in support of cancer patients. He said that sport was part of his treatment.

On the sidelines of the race, AZF reserved a dedicated Fun Zone for families that offered a range of food and beverage outlets, and a special area for the giant screen to watch the race. The fun zone includes many activities such as Taekwondo exercises and Thai boxing.
