The Ritz-Carlton, Doha is home to one of the finest steakhouses in Qatar, STK Doha. And at lunchtime on Saturdays, this vibrant and lively American steakhouse serves their take on the most famous of Great British meals, the Sunday Roast.

Back home in the UK, regardless of how busy family members were during the week, and no matter how many meals we didn’t sit together for in the last six days, Sunday lunch was the one meal we would make an extra effort to enjoy together. And Sunday Roast is what the vast majority of families would sit down to on a Sunday.

It’s called a roast dinner because a lot of the contents on your plate would have been oven-roasted.

Of course, the meat would be roasted. It could be roast beef (the most popular), roast chicken or roast lamb among others. And also, on the plate would be roast potatoes, perhaps roast parsnips or indeed any vegetable that could be roasted along with Yorkshire Pudding.

And then there are the boiled vegetables, cabbage or broccoli, carrots (if you haven’t decided to roast them already), peas, and perhaps some boiled or mashed potatoes for good measure. And then the most important ingredient that turns this mountain of food into a roast dinner – lashings of gravy. Some like their gravy on the side of the plate, but I like mine poured over absolutely everything and then a good sprinkling of pepper on top!

STK Doha takes this popular British dish and moves it to a Saturday. And instead of the traditional joint of roast beef found on most tables on a Sunday in the UK, they offer you the choice of succulent spiced brisket or a juicy USDA prime ribeye steak. And although not mentioned on the menu, they throw in some complimentary roast lamb as well, which they bring and carve next to your table.

Yorkshire Puddings are a savoury batter mix cooked individually in the oven and rise (if you are skilled enough) to big fluffy puddings – crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I have to say that STK Doha has got the art of cooking Yorkshire Puddings absolutely spot on.

I selected spiced brisket for my roast beef and they served it on top of my Yorkshire pudding, which I then proceeded to smother in their specially prepared gravy.

Instead of roast potatoes, they provide seasoned thick and chunky potato chips and there is a wooden platter containing roast beetroot, cauliflower, broccoli, and courgettes. All this comes along with a skillet of macaroni cheese and another filled with mashed potatoes. The complimentary lamb that was carved at my table was served on a separate plate.

Portion sizes are very generous, and you may or may not have room for one of the delicious desserts, which are New York Cheesecake, Special Brownie or Toffee Pudding.

STK Doha is located on the 23rd floor of The Ritz-Carlton, Doha and the views from up there are simply stunning! The restaurant is plush and super cosy. The service is exceptional and the food is out-of-this-world!

Whenever I am undertaking a review, I always pay a lot of attention to the tables around me. I’m very interested in seeing how much they are enjoying their experience. And everyone in the room seemed to be having a great time!
