Second Edition of Katara International Arabian Horse Festival Kicks Off this Week
Under the patronage of HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the second edition of the spectacular Katara International Arabian Horse Festival (KIAHF 2022) kicked off this Wednesday at Katara Beach and will run until next week, 12 February.
Featuring only the finest of Arabian horses from across the globe, the festival is organised by the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara, in cooperation with Qatar Equestrian Federation, Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club and Qatar Foundation.
With competitions and participation of 11 countries, including from the Arab region, Europe and the US, this year’s festival carries QAR17,083,500 total prize money. It will be held over a total of 11 days and will have the Arabian Peninsula Horse Show on 2-5 February; the Arabian Horse Auction on 7 February; and the prestigious Title Show on 9-12 February.
The pristine purebreds on showcase are admired by passionate connoisseurs, horse-owners and breeders, and horse lovers. KIAHF is also expected to be graced by dignitaries. The venue features Bedouin-style canopies by the sea.
Arabian Peninsula Horse Championship
The opening day will see the start of the Arabian Peninsula Horse Championship for the qualifying categories for Fillies in four categories. The Arabian Peninsula Horse Championship is a new addition to KIAHF. As many as 239 purebred Arabian horses are participating in this year’s Arabian Peninsula Horse Show. This is in addition to the 32 horses for the auction and the 309 (registered so far) for the prestigious Title Show Championships.
Aside from the competitions, the festival also features fun and entertainment for families, including live painting event, horse arts exhibition, photo exhibition, pony ride for kids, Amiri Horse Show, horse jigsaw puzzles, 3D painting, Fine Arts competition, storytelling, Arabian street art, art auction, and the launch of two new books on horses.
