This week at the Wyndham Grand Regency Doha is Spanish Paella Festival Week, held in their Grand Gourmet Restaurant.

There are live cooking shows by executive chef Jameel El Nabtiti and a live Spanish band. The restaurant, which is decorated with Spanish colours, offers four different menus of Spanish paella, with seafood, meatballs, chicken and vegetables. Chef Jameel revealed that the word paella comes from the Arabic word ‘baqiyah’ which means leftovers. Paella was originally a poor man’s way of using leftovers to make a tasty meal.
