Splash Into Qatar’s Summer

As the temperature soars in Qatar, people are looking for ways to stay cool.

In Qatar, there are many places where you can go to feel refreshed and unheated besides dinning-in, going to the cinema and doing other indoor activities. Outdoor activities especially water sports take place all year in Qatar because of the warm climate. Water sports have become very popular in Qatar, where there is a vast variety of water sports and lessons available today.

Aqua Park Qatar

Aqua ParkQatar’s first and only water park features 15 exhilarating water rides and attractions spread over an area of 50,000 square meters. Aqua Park has something to offer guests of all age groups and swimming skills. Tickets can be purchased at the gate, or online to avoid queues.

Fridays are family days with no bachelors allowed into the park. Tuesdays are exclusively ladies’ days. General entry ticket is QAR120 for adults, QAR100 for children between between 90 to 120 cm. Lockers and other necessities require extra fee.

Katara Beach – Katara Cultural Village

Katara beachOne of the best beaches within Doha is Katara beach, which is Katara Cultural Village’s private beach, spanning over 1.5 km. Beach goers have a choice between enjoying a relaxed beach experience and diving into the fun with a great variety of adrenaline-boosting beach activities including water skiing, wake-boarding, knee boarding, para-sailing, windsurfing, sailing, boat rides, banana rides, sea pedal boats, canoe/kayak, hobbie cats and fishing trips.

Entrance for adults is priced at QAR100, for children between six and 16 years old is QAR50 and free entrance for kids below six years of age.

Sealine Beach Resort

Sealine Beach ResortOwned and managed by Katara Hospitality, this is a destination for families wanting a fun-packed break in beautiful surroundings and only a 45 minute drive from Doha International Airport and the city centre. The resort attracts guests who are looking for a comfortable atmosphere and comprehensive leisure facilities. Water activities include jet skiing, banana boat and water rides including doughnut, mammoth and chariot rides. Prices for the water activities at the resort begin at QAR350. Prices vary on time and number of people per ride.

The Pearl-Qatar

Stand Up Paddling The Pearl-QatarAdventure lovers can explore a range of exciting new water sports at the waters of The Pearl-Qatar with activities like stand up paddling, water skiing, kayaking, drag racing, fishing and boating.

Charged with the management of The Pearl-Qatar’s three world-class marinas, Ronautica Middle East (RME), a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Development Company (UDC), stages a number of water activities for the public, capitalising on The Pearl-Qatar’s waterside location and upscale marina services including open water paddling, stand up paddling and a Qatar Drag Race Championship. The championship is regularly hosted by The Pearl-Qatar and attracts the cream of the Qatar and the Gulf’s aqua bike racers in four different categories: Stock, Super Stock, Open and Freestyle.

Doha Sailing Club

Sailing is very popular in the Arabian Gulf and the Qatar International Regatta is a major annual event which contributes to world sailing rankings. The Doha Sailing Club promotes the sport in the area offering tuition for all levels, competitions and a social hub for sailing and rowing in the area. They have facilities for various types of boat including Optimists and Lasers. It is also possible to learn to windsurf at the Doha Sailing Club. Their website includes information on weather and tides in the area. The Doha Sailing Association also holds weekly and monthly races for laser class boats.

If you’re looking to simply swim, most of Qatar’s sports clubs and hotels have pools, which are open to the public. However, an entry fee is required so make sure to call the club or hotel you wish to visit and find out what the entry fee and other requirements are. Many hotels offer special packages during summer, offering day passes to their pools and beaches.

Warning though – jellyfish are commonly found in Qatar’s waters!
