Review: Staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha is a Suite Treat!
Hasn’t it been a long summer! With the better weather, we find ourselves a tad more energetic. Thoughts start to gravitate towards eating out and socialising with a healthy dose of rest and relaxation, but without the hassle and stress of a full-blown vacation!
And the festive season is just around the corner, so you may want to start making your plans early – bookings for Christmas and New Year’s Eve are popular and sell out fast. If you want to secure a hotel room to enjoy a special night out, then now is the time to get your thinking caps on.
If you are still unsure of what your plans are, or simply want to spend the weekend in luxury somewhere, those affable chaps at Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha have come to the rescue. We were invited to try their staycation package, which guarantees everything you can want from an overnight stay at one of Doha’s top hotels.
The Radisson, located in the heart of Doha, is the perfect staycation option. The hotel has an extensive range of restaurants and bars on-site – so many, in fact, you are given an entertainment and dining guide when you check-in! Which, by the way, was an absolute breeze – within minutes we were on our way to the room.
Now I say ‘room’ – we were actually pleased to see we were staying the night in an extremely spacious Junior Suite in the West Wing. As we walked in, we breathed in the heady aroma emanating from the floral arrangements, and then noticed the equally spectacular fruit display and complimentary sweet treats that had been provided. We felt like film stars!
The suite was tastefully decorated in a modern/contemporary style, with a king-size bedroom as well as separate lounge and dining areas. A closer inspection revealed luxury bedding, a stylish well-appointed bathroom, and the ultimate requirement for lazy weekends away – super soft fluffy bathrobes and slippers. This would do very nicely!
There are options a-plenty during your stay: have a quick workout at the Cabana Club fitness centre or a swim in the temperature-controlled pool to work up an appetite. Those looking to chill out can take a relaxing treatment at the wellness centre, followed by a long soak in the bath while you contemplate that evening’s dining choices.
And then do as we did: get your glad rags on for a delicious dinner. There is everything from the finest Wagyu steak at high-end Bentley’s Grill to singing waiters at The Italian Job or fish and chips at the Frying Scotsman.
Make sure you keep your entertainment guide with you (and read the copy of Marhaba Information Guide available in your room!), so that you know exactly where to finish the night off, whether this is a beverage at swanky Manhattan bar or bopping the night away at Qube. Best of all, no taxis are required at the end of the night, whatever you choose to do.
When it was time to retire, we found the bed had been turned down for the night with chocolates and a deep sleep pillow spray; more thoughtful little touches from the hotel. Spritz a mist of relaxing lavender and allow yourself to sink into a restful slumber… zzz
And then up, there’s no time to waste! After a great sleep, we took our time enjoying coffee from the Nespresso machine while relaxing in the living area, feeling rested and rejuvenated, as one should do on a Friday morning. One could certainly get used to this level of comfort.
Part of the staycation package includes brunch at Hyde Park Coffee Shop, located on the ground floor of the West Wing. We had premium seats, right in front of the resident band and overlooking the landscaped gardens. And it was busy! Restaurant manager Victor told us that a reservation is recommended, as every week the tables are filled up.
And do you know why it is so busy every week? Because it has something for everyone, regardless of your age or dietary quirks, with a staggering range of salads, soups, hot dishes and desserts available. But what makes this brunch stand out is the excellent carvery. We joined the queue of diners salivating at the sight of roast lamb, beef, turkey, whole hammour, short ribs, and Beef Wellington. And we weren’t the only ones to return for seconds … and thirds…
Brunch is 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm, and those three hours disappeared in an absolute flash. It is the perfect way to bring to a close an unforgettable staycation: listening to the band, enjoying the ambience, eating exceptionally good food. Believe us when we say that you won’t want to leave the hotel – we certainly didn’t!
