The latest Sushi & Steak Night offer at Morimoto Doha puts ‘fusion’ at a whole new level.

We were expecting a not-so-busy Sunday night and were quite surprised that the restaurant was actually packed. Were these people here for the Sushi & Steak Night offer? Maybe.

We started with a bowl of edamame, followed by a really tasty bowl of Prawn Tempura Soba. If this had been any other time, I would have stopped here and maybe order another bowl of soup. The very flavourful soup would have been enough for a quiet Sunday dinner. But I know I was speaking in haste. More good things were coming. And they did come, in platters.

Imagine a platter with rolls of sushi, nigiri and sashimi followed by slices of Wagyu steak with sautéed vegetables and chips on the side. Both platters definitely did not disappoint.

We lingered longer at all the sushi goodness and finished all the fresh rolls in record time. The Wagyu steak, served medium rare and very tender, was seasoned just right to enhance the flavour of the beef.

Paula, the friendly staff who served and regularly checked on us recommended drinks to go with the food. Drinks are not included in the package, but reasonably-priced cocktails and mocktails should keep you going until dessert!

We expected to be really full and seriously considering the possibility of skipping lunch on Monday just to make up for all the food this Sunday night, but surprisingly, the sushi and steak combo was not as heavy as expected.

It is something bold, as all food fusions are, even for a restaurant with such a good following as Morimoto. But you’ll surely get your fill of sushi and steak, perhaps until Sunday next week?

The Sushi & Steak Night at Morimoto in Mondrian Doha is available only on Sundays, from 6 pm to 11 pm. QAR222 per person, minimum of two guests sharing. Call 4045 5999 for reservations.
