A beach restaurant in the city with beautiful views of The Pearl Island and a seafood tapas bar all in one, Lobito de Mar is a restaurant that brings the freshness of the sea of Spain to the urban city of Doha.

Located at the Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl – Doha, Lobito de Mar is inspired by the most popular and accessible fish, seafood and paella dishes and it is everything that Michelin Star Chef Dani Garcia knew during his childhood, a maritime gastronomy that is distinctive to the south of Spain. Always linked to a kitchen in which the produce is the main protagonist, Lobito de Mar is based on a typical beach chiringuito, where the menu and the bar are always differentiated. Lobito de Mar source the best fish markets in Spain to find the freshest fish and seafood to bring to Doha.

Our dinner began with an exceptional and delicious appetiser, coctel de langostinos, a Lobito prawn cocktail with pineapple and lettuce with cocktail sauce. Chef Oscar himself served it to our table – a pleasant surprise especially when he opened the pineapple, there was the cocktail of shrimp. As we picked each appetising shrimp, we were further pleasantly surprised to find a lettuce and pineapple salad with cocktail sauce.

Then came a platter of delectable croquetas de atun, creamy tuna croquettes with O’toro tuna, and croquetas de calamari, black squid ink croquettes – crunchy yet soft, richly flavoured breaded, deep-fried and béchamel-filled seafood dumplings that just melt in your mouth.

Then another appetiser came through, tomate alinado, an enjoyable tomato salad, spring onion, orange, green olive dressing and extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).

This was followed by a pulpo a la gallega, an entrantes or appetiser of mashed potatoes, crowned with octopus, topped with pimenton or paprika and EVOO.

Then finally came a large pan of paella de chuleta, a grilled rib eye paella, a classic Spanish saffron-infused rice dish, which can be served with your choice of chicken, fish and seafood, octopus, lobster or rib eye. The paella is more than enough for two people or more. The thinly cut rib eye on top of the paella was soft, juicy and tender.

Then came one of the greatest highlights of the evening, a delicious and rich cheesecake with grated Manchego cheese topping.

In addition to their exquisite menu, the restaurant itself is stunning in its all-white interior, not to mention the spectacular views of Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl – Doha and the natural Costa Malaz Bay that engulfs it as well as the rest of the colourful and vibrant Pearl Island. With various coral and sea life sculptures and artwork surrounding the restaurant, you truly feel like you’re under the sea.
