Texas A&M University at Qatar’s Graduate Studies Program will host a come-and-go open house on Tuesday 25 November 2014 from 5 pm to 8 pm in lecture hall 238 in the Texas A&M at Qatar Engineering Building.

The open house will provide potential master’s students with information about the branch campus’ academic programmes. Attendees and prospective students will have the opportunity to ask questions about Texas A&M at Qatar’s two master’s programmes in chemical engineering and meet with professors and graduate students. Assistant dean for research and graduate studies, Dr Hassan S Bazzi, said:

The Texas A&M at Qatar Graduate Program is a significant contributor to the development of the human capital Qatar needs to support Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country’s future. The open house will be a perfect time for prospective graduate candidates to meet with professors and representatives from admissions and industry partners. Our programme stays true to the branch campus mission of providing quality education that develops a knowledge-based economy.’

Applications for the Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) programmes are being accepted for the fall 2015 semester and will remain open until 1 March 2014.

The event will feature a panel session, ‘Why Pursue a Graduate Degree’, in which guest speakers will discuss perspectives on the subject. Panelists will include Rashid Alghithani Al Marri, head of logistics at ORYX GTL; Wyatt R. Hume, director of education, training and development at Qatar Foundation Research and Development; Ahmed Abdel Wahab, associate professor of chemical engineering at Texas A&M at Qatar; and Duaa Muttar, current graduate student at the branch campus. Al Marri said:

At ORYX GTL, we take a dedicated interest in fostering young talent and encouraging students to pursue postgraduate degrees in order to further their educations and help build national capacity. The Texas A&M University at Qatar panel discussion provides a unique opportunity to engage directly with students considering postgraduate education and align with Qatar’s vision to become a global center for research and development.’

Hume said:

The ‘Why Pursue a Graduate Degree’ panel at Texas A&M University at Qatar is an important platform to connect with potential postgraduate students about the importance of continuing education in order to further their career prospects. Encouraging young generations to pursue postgraduate degrees is also in line with Qatar’s efforts to develop Ph.D. programmes in the country and build national research capabilities as part of its quest towards transforming into a knowledge economy.’

Guests and prospective graduate students will have the opportunity to learn more about Texas A&M at Qatar’s Graduate Program offerings, degree eligibility requirements, admissions process, portfolio submissions and the resources offered to graduate students, including financial aid opportunities and flexible schedules. Muttar said:

Enrolling in a graduate programme after graduation has become a must-do step that will enrich students with the knowledge needed to develop their careers and it will also open more opportunities. Personally, I find it is a tool that strengthens my technical knowledge and is reflecting positively on my work. We need knowledge and experience combined together to become the well-educated professional with a solid background who is capable of performing tasks and facing challenges in an effective manner and to be contributing to QNV 2030.’
