Just because most people are working from home these days doesn’t mean that professional development and personal enrichment can’t continue.

Faculty from Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) are sharing their knowledge and expertise with the local community through the new Al Maerifa virtual seminar series – 45-minute seminars on topics centred around Qatar’s grand challenges and research pursuits.

The Al Maerifa Talks will be presented in English with simultaneous Arabic translation. The seminars are designed for a general, non-technical audience, and participants will be invited to ask questions at the end of the presentation. Anyone who would like to watch the talk should visit knowledge.tamu.qa for more information and registration.

Al Maerifa Talks

Organised by the university’s Office of Engagement, Al Maerifa is a continuation of the university’s core mission to share knowledge with the local community in Qatar, explained Dr César Octavio Malavé, Dean of Texas A&M at Qatar.

He said that we are living in extraordinary times, but our work continues. At Texas A&M at Qatar, their mission is to create and share knowledge, and this includes the Qatar community.

Technology is allowing us to continue this valuable work and we hope to be able to offer more online learning for the community in the future.

Al Maerifa is not the school’s only foray into online learning. About 350 school students in Grades 7 to 12 from across Qatar are currently participating in the online IDEA: Innovate, Design and Engineer an App STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programme developed and offered by TAMUQ’s STEM experts. The programme allows students to explore the fundamentals of programming and mobile app development while learning from home due to school closures over concerns about the spread of COVID-19.
