BINGE WATCH THIS:
HBO’s new three-part documentary Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union starts this Tuesday. There are conversation with speechwriter and podcast host Jon Favreau, New Yorker writer Jelani Cobb, former senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, and Reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, as well as Obama’s own speeches and interviews. GET THE POPCORN FOR THIS:
Out this Friday is The Suicide Squad, a half reboot/standalone sequel of Suicide Squad which came out in 2016. Writer-director James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) brings together a mammoth ensemble cast (Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Peter Capaldi, to name just a few) as two suicide squads of underdog heroes who have to overcome the odds to defeat a powerful alien enemy. As can be expected from Gunn, the movie is action-packed and full of gags, with an awesome soundtrack. The Suicide Squad will be on HBO Max for just one month, while showing simultaneously in cinemas.

SETTLE IN WITH A CUP OF TEA AND READ THIS:
Stephen King’s new novel, Billy Summers, includes a note saying when it was written: 12 June 2019 – 3 July 2020. It was first mentioned in an NPR interview in April 2020, where King stated he had to change the story from taking place in 2020 to 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But this is not a pandemic novel, per se.
In this latest thriller, King brings us the story of Billy, a former Iraq war sniper turned hitman, who only kills the really bad guys: ‘He has no problem with bad people paying to have other bad people killed. He basically sees himself as a garbageman with a gun.’ Billy is now doing one final job before retirement – what could go wrong? Everything! King’s recent foray from the supernatural to crime/thrillers is paying off – critics are calling Billy Summers one of his best books in recent years.
