Netflix, 1 October

Based on a best-selling memoir, Maid features the story of Alex (Margaret Qualley), a single mother who becomes a housecleaner in order to make ends meet for her daughter, Maddy, and herself in the midst of escaping an abusive relationship. This 10-episode limited series sounds like the kind of show designed to tug at heartstrings.

‘The Guilty’
Netflix, 1 October

Also streaming this Friday on Netflix is the thriller film starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Based on the 2018 Dutch original, The Guilty follows Gyllenhaal’s character Joe Baylor, a demoted police officer assigned to a 911 dispatch desk in Los Angeles, who receives a troubling call that appears to be from a woman who has been abducted. LA at that time was devolved into wildfire chaos, leaving Joe alone making it almost a one-man show.

‘Diana: The Musical’
Netflix, 1 October

Netflix is also making an unprecedented move this Friday as it premieres a live stage recording of Diana: The Musical ahead of its Broadway debut. Diana tells the story of the beloved Princess Diana as she finds herself thrust into the global spotlight after her engagement to Prince Charles and struggles to navigate her way within the royal family. Jeanna de Waal leads as Diana, with Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles and Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth.

Wolfe Soyinka

Soyinka’s first novel in nearly 50 years tells the multidimensional story of a secret society dealing in human parts for sacrificial uses, whose members encompass the highest political and religious figures in the land. A Lagos doctor discovers this horrific trafficking of body parts and taps his governmental connections to get to the bottom of the mystery.

‘Love For Sale’
Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett

Love for Sale is the second studio album collaboration between Lady Gaga and Bennett, following the success of ‘Cheek to Cheek’ in 2014, and their artistry is undeniable. Their collaboration shows not only a masterpiece but also a testament to the power of Jazz that many perceive as dying. Love For Sale, which features 10 tracks on the regular version and 12 on the deluxe one, will be the final studio recording of Bennett’s career and is the culmination of Bennett and Gaga’s 10-year recording history.
