Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the third adaption of the popular children’s books to movies; in fact, it is the first animated version we’ve seen. The official synopsis for the film states ‘Greg Heffley is an ambitious kid with an active imagination and big plans to be rich and famous. The problem is that he has to survive middle school first.’ From the trailer this movie looks like it’ll be a fun watch suitable for the whole family – and even for the older fans who read the books when they were younger. Following the story of the first book in Jeff Kinney’s bestselling series, this movie adaptation should prove to be as amusing as the original and make any fans of the books nostalgic, especially as this series perfectly captures the artwork of books for its animation style.

Small Things Like These follows the story of an Irish coal merchant in 1985, who upon a discovery is put at odds with his town and is forced to face his own past. This book is lauded as already being an international bestseller and is certainly a read not to be missed. Claire Keegan’s previous works have been subject to numerous accolades, including Los Angeles Times’ Book of the Year, and she has even had work nominated as one of the top 50 books published in the 21st century by the UK Times. Small Things Like These appears set to follow this trend receiving praise from fellow writer Hilary Mantel who said of it ‘Powerful and affecting and very timely.’
