SETTLE IN WITH A CUP OF TEA AND READ THIS:
‘Sea of Tranquility’
Emily St. John Mandel
The new offering by the award-winning and best-selling author of Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel takes the reader on another time travelling journey, from Vancouver Island in 1912 to a 23rd century post-pandemic colony on the moon. The book introduces us to 18 year old Edwin St Andrew in 1912, composer Paul in 2020, and famous writer Olive Llewellyn in 2203. Their connection is the same experience: haunting violin music in the echoing corridor of an airship terminal set within the forest. Fast forward again to 2401, and we meet moon colony detective Gaspery-Jacques Roberts, who is hired to investigate an anomaly in the North American wilderness…
Sea of Tranquility is a sweeping story of parallel worlds and time travel, while simultaneously examining what our place in the world might be and the connections we make with others – and fiction that precisely captures the reality of our current moment. The New York Times has called Sea of Tranquility ‘One of [Mandel’s] finest novels and one of her most satisfying forays into the arena of speculative fiction yet’.
CRANK UP THE VOLUME FOR THIS:
