The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar announced the completion of the Dhow Boat Docks project in three locations along the Corniche – near the Al Bidda and Dafna pedestrian paths, and near the Sheraton Park. The project is in cooperation with Qatar Tourism.

The Dhow Boat Docks project was developed in preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, in cooperation with Qatar Tourism, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Municipality, and the Private Engineering Office.

Project Design Engineer Engineer Maryam Al Kuwari said that dhow boats represent part of the country’s heritage and will allow visitors to explore Doha through the waterfront.

The docks were constructed following a simple design, utilising the used materials from the tunnel plazas along the Corniche and using sustainable materials that can withstand climate conditions whether on water or land.

Taking into consideration the highest quality and safety standards, the second and third locations include a drainage network, a low voltage electricity network, as well as a potable water network. The docks provide safe and suitable corridors and are accessible to all, with special consideration for people with special needs.

This is an alternative to the typical corridors that are currently used along the Corniche, especially in light of the increase in the number of visitors because of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

A unified design has been adopted in all three docks, with allowance for possible expansion and an increase in parking spaces in the future.
