From 5 to 8 June 2014, 48 teams from 35 countries will come head to head at Luzhniki Park in Moscow, doubling the number of teams that competed at the debut FIBA 3×3 World Championship held in Greece in 2012. The Qatari team will face host country Russia as well as Romania, Lithuania, Venezuela and Argentina in the pool stage.
President of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Deputy Chairman for the FIBA 3×3 Commission, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, said:
I wish the Qatari squad the best of luck as they take on the world in Moscow and look forward to welcoming some of the best 3×3 players to Qatar later this year at the 3×3 All-Stars.’
The ambitious Yasseen Masa is looking forward to leading his team at the second edition of the FIBA 3×3 World Championships, particularly after their victory at the 3×3 Asia Championships on home soil last year.
Following the World Championship, the Qatari squad can look forward to hosting the FIBA 3×3 All-Stars in Doha this December, a new competition which will feature six teams from around the world. The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) signed a three-year-deal in September 2013 to host the competition which will bring the 3×3 season to a close in a one day event.
