Ever wondered why Thursday is usually seafood night at Doha hotels? Thursdays being close to the end of the workweek make it a popular time for dining out, and seafood’s reputation as a special or celebratory food aligns with it being featured to kick-start the weekend.

And that is precisely why we were here – we had been invited to try the Thursday seafood night, one of several theme nights at Avenue located in Pullman Doha West Bay. Upon arrival, we were met by an affable marketing manager and the team who directed us to a highly desirable table by the window. The venue was decked out in nautical decor, and the inviting smell of the sea filled the air. In keeping with the theme, the staff were dressed in classic sailor outfits, and the lively performance by a musical duo created an immersive and enjoyable atmosphere for guests.

The buffet spread was divided into sections – bread and soup, salads, main dishes, live cooking station, and dessert station. There was an incredibly fresh array of salads to start off with, including mezze, Greek salad, smoked salmon, sushi, and cold seafood. Completing the scene, pizzas were fired in the oven, and the grilling station was ready to delight the palate.

Setting sail on our culinary adventure, we started with the appetisers, facing a delightful challenge as their selection covered some irresistible classics like fresh oysters, sushi, smoked salmon and octopus salad, enough to be a feast on its own! Our strategy was simple: savour a little of everything.

Next up was the main event. You pick out seafood from the buffet and they grill it for you on the spot. The choices were plentiful – lobsters, mussels, fish, and prawns. In no time, the chef served us a great mixed seafood platter. We also feasted on a variety of seafood dishes: baked salmon, salmon teriyaki, and whole fish baked in sea salt. There was also a flavourful seafood paella and a risotto in black ink, which was topped with crispy fried calamari.

For those who might prefer options beyond the bounty of the sea, the buffet doesn’t disappoint. There are equally tantalising non-seafood dishes available like creamy Cajun chicken, roasted beef or enjoy the classic simplicity of a Margherita pizza.

The remnants of our seafood indulgence, a tower of shells on our plates, was a testament to the sumptuous lobsters, mussels and oysters we had just devoured. The dessert spread was a decadent finale – chocolate fondue accompanied by an assortment of fresh fruits for dipping and panna cotta. Other treats included chocolate and rice puddings and a variety of cakes such as date and almond, and several cheesecakes.

Indulge in Seafood Night every Thursday at the Avenue, located in Pullman Doha West Bay, from 6:30 pm to 11 pm.
