The General Directorate of Traffic announced that a smart device will be introduced soon to impound cars at home. With this ‘Smart Impound’ device, owners will be able to keep the impounded vehicles at their own premises instead of leaving it at the designated impounding yards.
This device will be connected to the General Directorate of Traffic, and capable of tracking and locating seized vehicle, ensuring the vehicles stay ‘seized’ and under custody, following the period specified by the department. The purpose of this device is to stop paper transactions, enable fast task completion, and to track the location of the seized vehicles.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the traffic statistics of 2017, Captain Riyadh Ahmad said that the device will be activated two hours after its installation. Impound duration and vehicle details will be fed in during the installation process and the owner is free to take the smart device equipped vehicle to his own premises. The owner will be notified once the impound period is over and the device deactivated. If the vehicle is moved during the impound period, the device will send a notification to the control room.
Captain Riyadh said that the new system will guarantee the safety of the vehicle and avoid any possible mishandling during the impound period.
