To increase train capacity during the World Cup season, Qatar Rail announced this week that from 11 November to 22 December, all Doha Metro carriages will be classified as Standard Class. Gold and Family sections will be suspended during this period.

Qatar’s metro system has three lines – Gold, Green and Red – covering 37 stations. Trains run every three minutes and staff are available at every station to assist commuters. Fans can use their Hayya Card and enjoy free travel from 10 November to 23 December.

Non-match-ticket holders can buy a travel card at stations and top up online or use the Qatar Rail app, available to download for iOS and Android users. Top-up machines are also available on all Metro Stations and accept cash and card transactions.

Free Metrolink buses also run regular routes around the stations, within two to five kilometres. Some stations will have dedicated car parks to reduce traffic during tournament time.
