The new Salwa Port, at the border between Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, started trial operations this week, offering an additional route option to people travelling between the two countries.

The new port will have a daily capacity of over 24,800 vehicles – 12,096 vehicles on arrival and 12,726 on departure. It will be an important route that will facilitate the transit of football fans attending the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ to and from Saudi Arabia later this year.

The newly opened port has six times more capacity than the old port, which used to accommodate only 3,000 vehicles. It is expected to be fully operational in November, in time for the World Cup.
