The Marouf Rafiq TWINS for the Filipino project (MRTF) kicked off recently with the launching of Gitara, a musical workshop for the Filipino Youth in Qatar.

The first in a series of activities and programmes for the Filipino Community in Qatar, Gitara will give free beginner guitar workshops to children aged 10 to 16 years old. The workshops will cover basic to average guitar lessons and trainings on weekends. The programme will run until January 2021.

cosmopolitan gitaraMRTF is a collaboration between the Marouf Rafiq TWINS Project and Cosmopolitan Events and Hospitality LLC, as their Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

Founded by Marwan Mahmoud, the TWINS Project is inspired by the life and a deconstruction of the literary works of Marouf Rafiq, a Qatari poet and educator whose writings on various topics manifest a call for a strong social fabric.

Marouf Rafiq’s idea of a society is where individual growth is encouraged and solidarity and cooperation are achieved through a collective effort.

MRTF’s main objective is to help the Filipino adapt to and embrace the new social norm and become more competitive in the work environment. Through the conduct of theme-based programmes and activities, MRTF will provide the platform for creativity, skills development and innovation.

The MRTF Activity Calendar includes:

  • Arts competition for household workers
  • Arabic Language and Culture Learning Programme
  • Choir competitions
  • Arts contest
  • Health and fitness programme
  • Skills enhancement for women
  • Filipino-Arabic food fusion
  • Environment protection programme
