Doha International Family Institute (DIFI) has opened the registration for their upcoming international conference on ‘Marriage: Formation and Constituents of Stability’, taking place on 23 – 25 February 2021, in partnership with the League of Arab States, as well as regional and national partners.

The conference will convene policymakers, social scientists and researchers, as well as representatives of civil society and non-governmental organisations and youths, on a digital platform, to discuss the topic of marriage in the modern era, the challenges it entails and the tools to support it.

Dr Sharifa Noaman Al Emadi, Executive Director of DIFI, a member of Qatar Foundation, said that the significance of the conference stems from the importance of the marriage institution itself, as it is the foundation upon which societies are built, and in which generations are raised.

Because of these, Dr Al Emadi said we must study how to support it, address the current challenges it faces, protect marital relationships, and safeguard it in all possible ways through policies and interventive programmes.

In light of the problems and obstacles we have been going through recently that make the idea of marriage daunting, or make it more vulnerable to termination, we feel an urgent need to extensively discuss the marital institution, specifically in Arab societies. We hope that the discussions yield recommendations and action plans that will strengthen the marriage institution.

The conference programme includes ten sessions that explore marriage in the Arab world.

  • Marriage and Socioeconomic Challenges
  • Age and Marriage: Between Early and Late Marriages
  • Foundations of a Happy Marriage
  • Experiences and Challenges of Cross-Border Marriages
  • Is Technology the Doom of Modern Marriage?
  • Overcoming the Challenges of Disability and Marriage
  • The Future of Marriage Policies
  • Extended Families and Marital Stability
  • Marriage in the Time of COVID-19
  • Marriage in Conflict Zones

The DIFI International Conference 2021 is aligned with the efforts of Qatar Foundation to foster healthy, educated societies, underpinned by strong cohesive families in Qatar and the region.
