7th QIFF Receives record-breaking 200,000 visitors

As the 7th Qatar International Food Festival draws to a close, organisers have estimated a record-breaking 200,000 visitors enjoyed the event at its three locations, based on daily visitor counts.

The week-long event has been billed the largest and most popular yet, after it attracted thousands of local citizens, residents and tourists, in addition to world-renowned chefs including Martha Stewart, George Calombaris of Master Chef Australia, and Salma Soliman of Fatafeat TV.

QIFF 2016 was marked with new locations at The Pearl-Qatar and Katara Cultural Village, connected with the main Festival grounds at the Museum of Islamic Art Park with water taxis that proved highly popular. The Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture was celebrated with a dedicated court, along with signature activities such as Dinner in the Sky by Qatar Airways, the QIFF Live Cooking Theatre, High Tea by the Bay, InstaMarket, Health Court, Dinner on a Dhow and BBQ on the Bay.

Qatar Airways, co-host of QIFF, welcomed guests to its premium lounge to enjoy A Taste of Business Class and its award-winning hospitality on board its signature Dinner in the Sky experience.  Meanwhile a stellar line-up of the world’s most celebrated chefs, made their cooking debut at the Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre offering visitors a fantastic programme of culinary delights over the course of the seven-day festival.

In line with its theme “a different side of food,” the Festival placed a great emphasis on healthy-eating, especially as a means of preventing chronic illnesses and life-threatening heart conditions. Kulluna, an initiative of Hamad Medical Corporation and Conoco Phillips which aims to raise awareness of issues that cause heart disease, provided free screenings to approximately 3,500 people, helping many of them with early detection of high cholesterol and hypertension.

Nearby in the Health Court was Yalla Natural, part of Sahtak Awalan “Your Health First”, an initiative of the Ministry of Public Health and Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar, which helped 15,000 visitors discover new ways of going back to nature through better eating, better exercising, and better living.

Visitors to QIFF 2016 also enjoyed a wide array of entertainment options including Baraem TV’s children theatre, Doha Film Institute’s daily film screenings, and nightly firework displays that were visible around the Doha Corniche.

Qatar Airways, the official co-host of the 2016 Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF) in partnership with the Qatar Tourism Authority, and Ooredoo are offering visitors to the culinary festival an opportunity to win two free tickets to any destination in Greater China that is served by the national carrier’s global network, simply by sharing their QIFF stories. 

The partnership will see Qatar Airways and Ooredoo launch a week-long social media competition encouraging visitors to actively submit their videos or photographs that express their experiences or memories from this year’s QIFF. The most compelling and distinctive entry capturing the true essence of the Festival will win two return Business tickets to Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong or Shanghai in celebration of the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture, for which Qatar Airways is an official sponsor.

To participate in the competition, festival-goers need to simply upload their images or videos using the hashtag #QIFF 2016 when submitting through Instagram or twitter. People can share their stories taken across all venues and activities of QIFF 2016, and echo their voices to the world in a visual tribute to the community event that celebrates global cultures and cuisines.

Running from 22 to 28 March, the 7th QIFF is extending its run to a whole week and will be open to the public from 1:00 PM to 10:30 PM, and will include an expanded range of fun activities and new attractions including satellite venues at The Pearl-Qatar and Katara Cultural Village in addition to the Museum of Islamic Art Park, and promises amazing experiences for every member of the family.

DOHA, Qatar – The Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre has once again proved to be a great hit at the ongoing Qatar International Food Festival, with celebrity chefs sharing their culinary skills, favourite recipes and professional insights in to the art of fine dining through live cooking demonstrations.

Food lovers in Qatar have been treated to fantastic fare and entertainment over the past few days thanks to a stellar line-up of award winning chefs from across the globe, celebrated for their unique skills and modern approach to culinary classics.

The Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre got underway with an opening to remember on 22 March, as world-famous chef and television personality, Martha Stewart, served guests a spectacular meal to mark the first day of the gastronomic event, of which Qatar Airways is official co-host along with the Qatar Tourism Authority.

Martha, renowned for her cooking expertise, delivered a delectable menu during her one hour live cooking demonstration. Dishes included healthy salads and side dishes including quinoa and salmon and an energising juice made of grapefruit, carrot and ginger.

Qatar Airways’ signature food festival event proved extremely popular with festival-goers, who also enjoyed watching George Calombaris, chef, restauranteur, and judge of MasterChef Australia. Regarded as one of Australia’s top chefs, the MasterChef lifted the lid on kitchen secrets and entertained the audience with his highly influential style of cuisine that has earned him many accolades and respect from culinary aficionados across the globe.

George spent his time in the kitchen serving mouthwatering dishes including a Spanakopita; a traditional Greek savoury pastry cooked with spinach and chicken, served alongside some of his most popular dessert recipes of apple shisha mouse, bitter chocolate sorbet and smoked apple fluid gel.

Also entertaining visitors to QIFF in MIA Park and The Pearl was multiple award-winning Vineet Bhatia, Qatar Airways’ exclusive on board chef; Chef Massimo Capra, creator of the Qatar Duty Gree’s Soprafino Restaurant at Hamad International Airport; Michelin star-rated talents Tagaki Kazuo, Paul Bentley, Tim Butler, and Jesús Escalera, plus Francisco Ruano and a number of fabulous chefs from the Arabic food channel Fatafeat, such as Salma Soleiman, and Mohamad Orfali.

Chinese food lovers have been especially enjoying Qatar International Food Festival, with a special zone celebrating the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture.

Stands from the Shangri-La, Doha Marriot Hotel, Oriental Bowl and Spice Boat are offering special festival menus featuring peking duck burgers, shanghai pan fried dumplings, shrimp shumai, chicken dim sum, ginger egg drop soup, and many other oriental delicacies at special prices, drawing large numbers of visitors to the Qatar-China Court.

The dedicated court offers visitors a wealth of Chinese fusion cuisine to enjoy, served side-by-side with Qatari traditional dishes, marking the initiative which aims to create sustainable platforms for collaboration and cultural exchange between civilisations.

QIFF 2016 Brings Urban Casual Atmosphere to One of Its Satellite Venues

Visitors to Qatar International Food Festival 2016 enjoying the recent arrival of the popular international concept of food trucks to the Qatari dining scene.

Kholoud Al-Hail, CEO of Aspire Katara Hospitality commented on the new phenomenon:

The mobile food service concept was conceptualised simply because of the growing demand in the market, which enables us to reach out to more people in other parts of Qatar. The Burgeri Bus project is one of the most unique enterprises of Aspire Katara Hospitality and is the first in Doha. It serves as a gateway for local entrepreneurs in developing and realising their dreams and further supporting the country’s tourism industry’s progression.’

She continued:

Internationally acclaimed culinary masters will whip up delectable delights at the Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre

A brigade of the world’s most celebrated chefs have begun to arrive in Doha courtesy of Qatar Airways, to deliver exquisite culinary creations at the Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre, part of the upcoming Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF), of which the award-winning airline is official co-host. The Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre will take place at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park along with expanded activities and new attractions scheduled at the satellite venues in The Pearl Qatar and Katara Cultural Village, from 22–28 March 2016.

Headlining the gastronomic experience are internationally acclaimed celebrities such as global lifestyle personality Martha Stewart; restauranteur and MasterChef Australia judge George Calombaris; Qatar Airways’ ambassador and multiple award-winning Chef Vineet Bhatia, and Chef Massimo Capra, partner of Qatar Duty Free’s Soprafino Restaurant at Hamad International Airport.

Martha Stewart will open the Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre at 5 pm on Tuesday 22 March, cooking four nutritious recipes live on the festival’s main stage at MIA Park. America’s most famous homemaker will cook a healthy menu featuring fresh salads and side dishes and her take on an energising booster juice.

Several Michelin star-rated talents will also be creating in the stage kitchen’s at MIA Park, Katara and The Pearl: Japan’s Tagaki Kazuo; Magno Brasserie’s Paul Bentley joins the line-up from Mexico; Tim Butler of Eat Me Restaurant Bangkok fame, and Spanish pastry chef Jesús Escalera, who is known for sensational work at El Bulli and The Fat Duck.

The Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre’s line-up also includes the ‘Queen of Qatari cuisine’ Chef Aisha, Francisco Ruano, owner of one of the top five restaurants in Mexico and former chef at world-famous Noma Restaurant, and a number of fabulous chefs from the Arabic food channel Fatafeat, such as Daad Abu Jaber, Salma Soleiman, Mohamad Orfali and Wafa Al Kandari. Fatafeat Chefs will be presented by Darine Al Khatib.

Hamad International Airport, partner of FC Bayern Munich, has secured the football club’s head chef Alfons Schuhbeck to participate in the Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre, giving fans the opportunity to explore the favourite dishes enjoyed by the popular European team’s players.

Fatafeat ‘Fantastic Four’ to Take Centre Stage in Qatar Airways Celebrity Chef Cooking Theatre

Four fabulous chefs from the popular Arabic food channel Fatafeat will return to Qatar Airways’ Cooking Theatre to entertain visitors and showcase some of the world’s best Arabic cuisine at the seventh edition of the Qatar International Food Festival 2016 (QIFF), 22–28 March.

Fatafeat will expand its successful event Fatafeat’s Kitchen to reach all it’s Qatar fans as part of QIFF. On 26 March Fatafeat Kitchen’s event will host several popular faces of the channel Darine El Khatib, Daad Abu Jaber; Salma Suleiman; Wafaa Al Kandari, and Mohamad Orfali Catering to all food lovers through live cooking demos, Q&A and meet and greet.

QIFF has grown in recent years to become one of the region’s most prestigious culinary events – demonstrating the power that food has to draw people together. More than 14 highly-acclaimed international and national chefs have been announced by Qatar Airways as presenters at this year’s live Cooking Theatre, offering guests a world of wonderful flavours.

Chef Daad Abu Jaber delighted crowds last year at QIFF, and this year will share her passion for cooking and her own recipes that have been developed through a family tradition of cooking. She will be joined by Salma Suleiman known for her love of blending Tunisian and Egyptian cuisines with international recipes to create popular signature recipes. Wafaa Al Kandari will teach us the secret of Khaleeji food. Mohammad Orfali, a Syrian chef will complete the line-up focusing on Aleppo and modern Arabic cuisine, demonstrating his 18 years of professional culinary experience for visitors to the live stage show.
